Decommissioning Units Are Already Consulting the Market for the Hiring of Maritime Support Vessels
As our portal Click Petroleum and Gas had already published, a new market would become promising in the country, the decommissioning of platforms, that is, the dismantling of various offshore structures, decommissioned underwater infrastructures such as rusty platform legs and floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO).
Confirming our statement, companies interested in this market are already taking steps to obtain information and materials for when that time comes.
A good example of this is the movement happening among the companies participating in the bidding for the dismantling of the catfish platforms, in the Campos Basin.
The companies are collecting information from shipowners about potential support vessels available for hire in case they win the Petrobras decommissioning bid.

The best-known companies owning heavy lifts in the market are Allseas, Boa Offshore, Boskalis, Jumbo Maritime, OOS International, and Subsea 7.
Catfish 1, 2, and 3
Petrobras’s bidding process foresees the decommissioning of the three fixed platforms (PCA-1, 2, and 3), under the responsibility of UO-ES, which involves the removal of all surface equipment and materials, such as walkways (gangways), cranes, topsides, and jackets, in addition to materials identified with the presence of naturally occurring radiation (NORM).
The bidding notice for the Catfish decommissioning foresees the removal of all surface equipment and materials, such as walkways (gangways), cranes, topsides, and jackets, in addition to materials identified with the presence of naturally occurring radiation (NORM).
The deadline for proposals is June 3, and the contract will commence in 2020.
Reinforcing the thesis that decommissioning is a promising market in Brazil, Petrobras has seven other similar projects at an advanced detailing phase: the FPSOs Cidade de Rio das Ostras, Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Piranema, and P-33 and the semisubmersibles P-7, P-12, and P-15, with the last four expected to be auctioned by the state-owned company.
