Expansion and Contribution of Seagems
In 2024, over 80,000 hours of training were provided by Seagems, marking another year of significant contribution by the company to professional development. The company, recognized for its expertise in underwater engineering solutions, takes pride in the 10 years of excellence achieved by the Seagems Excellence Academy. This internal training and development program encompasses 14 courses aimed at specific technical training. Since its inception on January 15, 2015, SEA has accumulated investments of US$ 25 million dedicated to employee qualification throughout the decade.
Centralizing all of Seagems’ development and training initiatives, the Seagems Excellence Academy offers exclusive educational materials along with both virtual and in-person learning pathways. These pathways are meticulously planned to meet the needs of all employees and contractors. Furthermore, there is also a training center structured in Rio das Ostras (RJ), where the company’s sophisticated simulators are key to the practical training of employees. Currently, the Seagems team consists of 1,045 professionals allocated among its vessels and offices in Rio de Janeiro, Rio das Ostras, and Vienna.
Training and Internal Promotion
During a decade of operations, Seagems has recorded over 2,500 promotions and changes in level, assisting in the growth of its professionals who have gone through more than 1 million hours of training. In terms of training, 45% of offshore employees currently employed by the company had never been on board before and were fully developed internally to take on their roles. Just in 2024, over 80,000 hours of training were conducted, equivalent to an impressive 10,080 continuous days. ‘At Seagems, we are committed to empowering people. Teaching and training new professionals is at the core of our mission,’ says Gláucia Maciel, the company’s HR director.
The training matrix developed by Seagems has been updated 70 times since the emergence of SEA, highlighting the company’s commitment to aligning with new market demands. According to Aurélio Ponec, Training Coordinator at Seagems, all employees undergo periodic training, regardless of their role. ‘There are courses that are mandatory according to the position of the employee, as we believe they enhance the skills and safety of professionals. And at Seagems, safety always comes first.’
Simulators and Educational Programs
The training, an essential part of all internal careers in ROV and Pipeline Installation, takes place in person at the SEA headquarters located in Rio das Ostras (RJ). This center stands out in the market by offering training with simulators, an innovation expanded by the Maneuver Simulator, aimed primarily at Maritime Officers and situated in the university city of UFJR. In 2024, Seagems further expanded its contribution by opening the doors of the SEA Training Center to the community, offering over 160 hours of courses to 35 students from state schools.
The Seagems Educational Program, with its first edition, offered 103 hours of online courses and 64 hours in person, blending introductory modules with practical notions in various areas such as Hydraulics, Mechanics, Electricity, and Electronics. According to HR director Gláucia Maciel, in 2025 Seagems will continue to invest in training new talents. ‘We plan to offer new classes for public school students, reaffirming our commitment to transforming society through knowledge and inclusion,’ she concludes.
