Concessionaire Pauses Rock Blasting on Strategic Days, Expects Heavy Traffic, Confirms Exception on the 19th, and Recommends Planning, Preventive Maintenance, and Consultation of Official Channels Before Traveling
RioSP announced that it will not conduct rock demolitions on Serra das Araras during the Carnival period. The section of Via Dutra is undergoing modernization works, but according to the concessionaire, interventions that require temporary lane closures will be paused to preserve the flow and enhance road safety on strategic dates of the schedule.
The measure aims to reduce impacts during one of the busiest times on highways. The company emphasized that the suspension is part of the operational planning adopted for holidays and peak periods, when the volume of vehicles significantly increases.
Dates Without Blasting and Scheduled Exception
According to RioSP, there will be no blasting on the 14th (Saturday), 16th (Monday), 17th (Tuesday), 18th (Wednesday), 20th (Friday), and 21st (Saturday).

It’s not a 3D printer: an inventor from Pará created a construction robot that ejects reinforced concrete into molds and builds an entire house at once, reduces labor by 50%, saves 20% on cost, and is already negotiating over 1,000 units across Brazil.
The only exception occurs on the 19th (Thursday), when the schedule will proceed as planned, with blasting expected from 1 PM to 3 PM.
During this interval, the ascent lane at km 225 in Paracambi (RJ) is expected to be closed. The concessionaire advises drivers to be extra cautious and, if possible, adjust their travel times to avoid delays during the operational window.
Traffic Forecast and Recommendations
For Carnival, RioSP estimates around 1,831,886 vehicles will circulate on Via Dutra and Rio-Santos (BR-101) between February 13 and 18.
This number reflects the expectation of a significant increase in flow, a scenario that requires planning from drivers.
The concessionaire’s guidance is clear: check the road conditions before traveling, perform preventive maintenance on the vehicle, and plan departure times to avoid peak traffic periods.
If necessary, available service channels include WhatsApp, phone 0800 017 3536, as well as the Motiva Rodovias app and the RioSP website.
As a precedent, the temporary suspension of activities with lane closure is already part of operational routines on holidays.
After Carnival, blasting will resume on the 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 28th, as informed by the concessionaire.
