Two new treated water reservoirs in Itanhaém increase the water security of Baixada Santista, totaling 20 million liters of capacity and are part of the Mambu-Branco system, a project that will serve five cities and 1.2 million residents.
Two new treated water reservoirs began operation this Thursday (18), in Itanhaém, enhancing the water security of Baixada Santista with a combined capacity of 20 million liters and an investment of R$ 84.6 million.
Structure reinforces supply in Baixada Santista
The two inaugurated structures are the first of the Mambu-Branco system, which supplies Itanhaém, Peruíbe, Mongaguá, Praia Grande, and São Vicente. The delivery took place during the 3D Caravan – Development, Dignity, and Dialogue.
The complete project foresees four reservoirs, each with a capacity of 10 thousand cubic meters. When completed, the center will have 40 million liters of treated water available to reinforce regional supply.

Water reservoirs function as strategic stock
The new structure creates an operational reserve for maintenance situations, occasional production interruptions, or increased consumption. This reinforcement is considered especially important in the high season when the population of Baixada Santista grows significantly.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas stated that the delivery strengthens the supply and changes the logic of water distribution in the municipalities. Secretary Natália Resende highlighted greater reliability and operational security.
Construction uses bolted metallic technology
The works began in July 2025. Each reservoir has a diameter of 56 meters, a height of 5 meters, and a useful capacity to store 10 million liters of treated water.
The structures use deep foundations, with pre-molded concrete piles reaching 40 meters. They also feature a vitrified galvanized steel side and a self-supporting aluminum dome cover.
Another two reservoirs are under implementation, with completion expected in the second half of 2026.
