Detran-ES Opened Registrations for a Free Riding Course for Category A Drivers. Learn Safety and Fuel Economy Techniques.
The State Department of Traffic of Espírito Santo (Detran-ES) announced the opening of 15 spots for a free riding course aimed at drivers licensed in category “A”.
The training will take place on August 27, in Serra (ES), and has the main objective of promoting more safety in traffic and improving motorcyclists’ skills. Registrations must be made between August 11 and 14, directly on the official Detran website.
The course will be entirely in-person and divided into two parts: theory in the morning and practice in the afternoon. The initiative seeks to reduce accidents, improve driver behavior, and teach practices that also contribute to fuel economy and motorcycle preservation.

Who Can Participate in the Detran Free Course?
To enroll, it is necessary to meet some basic criteria:
- Have a valid National Driver’s License (CNH) in category “A”
- Not be serving penalties such as suspension or revocation of driving rights
- Bring your own motorcycle and helmet on the day of the class
Spaces are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, it is important to sign up as soon as possible to ensure participation.
Where and When Does the Detran Course Take Place?

The free Detran course will be held in two locations in the city of Serra:
- Theoretical Part: from 8 AM to 12 PM, at Detranzinho
- Practical Part: from 1 PM to 5 PM, at the Carapina Pavilion
Throughout the day, participants will have access to technical and practical content that covers everything from motorcycle operation to group riding strategies.
What Will Be Taught in the Detran Free Course?
The syllabus is extensive and covers various essential areas for safe and conscious riding:
- Motorcycle Characteristics and Handling: dynamic balance, centrifugal force, and maneuverability techniques
- Preventive Maintenance: tire inspection, controls, cables, lights, electrical system, oil, and fuel
- Protective Equipment: proper use of helmets, appropriate clothing, and rain protection
- Riding Techniques: posture, braking, turns, climbs, descents, and stopping on slopes
- Safety Strategies: PIPDE method (Search, Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute)
- Group Riding: organization with leader and sweep, safe distance, and behavior at tolls
- Tips for the Passenger: correct posture, equipment, and behavior in turns
