We Scrutinized the 2024 Version of the Italian Big Trail, with Its Exclusive Look, Complete Tech Package, and an Engine That Promises Adrenaline on Any Terrain. See Our Verdict.
The Ducati Desert X with RR22 Graphics is a motorcycle that does not go unnoticed. We tested the 2024 model and can confirm: it delivers what it promises. With an exclusive look and a robust performance package, the motorcycle provided by Ducati Brazil features the powerful Testastretta 11º engine and sharp handling for any challenge. Based on our experience, we reveal the details that make this model a strong contender in the big trail category.
Exclusive Design and Powerful Engine
The major differential of this version is its RR22 graphics. Inspired by the race car Audi RS Q e-tron, which shone in the 2022 Dakar Rally, the look combines black, gray, and red details, giving it an aggressive and unique appearance. The overall design of the motorcycle, in turn, references the classic Cagiva Elefante, a Dakar legend.
The heart of the Desert X is the Testastretta 11º engine. It is a bicylinder in an “L” configuration with 937 cc, featuring desmodromic valve timing (DVT). It delivers impressive 111 horsepower and a torque of 9.4 kgf.m. This power, managed by a six-speed gearbox, ensures vigorous accelerations in any situation.

Technical Specifications: Chassis and Dimensions

The motorcycle has been designed to be agile, despite its size. With a full fuel tank, it weighs 210 kg. The capacity of the main tank is 21 liters, but for those seeking maximum range, Ducati offers an additional 8-liter rear tank as an accessory.
The handling is among its strongest points. The chassis is a tubular steel trellis, and the suspensions are from the renowned Kayaba brand, both fully adjustable, with 230 mm of travel in the front and 220 mm in the rear.
The wheels are spoked, with aluminum rims, measuring 21 inches in the front and 18 in the rear, an ideal configuration for off-road use. The external spokes allow for the use of tubeless tires. To stop the machine, the braking system is fully equipped from the Brembo brand, featuring Cornering ABS, which operates intelligently even in curves.
Cutting-Edge Technology for On and Off-Road
The technology embedded in the Ducati Desert X RR22 is vast. The rider has six riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, and Rally) and four power modes (Full, High, Medium, Low).
The electronic package deepens with traction control (DTC) adjustable in eight levels, anti-wheelie control (DWC) with four levels, and engine brake control (EBC) in three levels. The motorcycle also offers conveniences such as bidirectional Quick Shift (DQS) for clutchless gear changes, cruise control for long trips, and a Full LED lighting system with DRL and emergency braking.
Everything is managed by a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and displayed on a modern 5-inch color TFT display, which offers Bluetooth connectivity.
Riding Impressions and Areas for Improvement
Riding the Desert X is a memorable experience. With a seat height of 87.5 cm, it is a tall motorcycle, but it becomes surprisingly light and agile in motion. The torque is immediate and the top speed is electronically limited to 228 km/h.
Fuel consumption is another positive aspect: in an aggressive riding style, it registers between 14 and 16 km/l, but at a cruising pace, it can easily exceed 20 km/l.
Despite its qualities, some points deserve attention. The heated grips, for example, are an accessory sold separately, even with the preparation already installed. Other observations include the engine heating at low RPMs, the potentially high cost for some specific replacement parts, and the access to the air filter, which is considered difficult. Finally, the footpeg rubbers are easily removable, which is good for off-road use, but may come off with friction during daily use.
Price of the Ducati Desert X RR22 in Brazil
For those who wish to have this machine in their garage, the reference values are as follows. A used Ducati Desert X RR22 has a value in the FIPE table of R$ 86,150. For the 0 km model, Ducati is offering a special promotion, with prices starting at R$ 99,990.
