In Speech on Army Day, General Tomás Paiva Highlighted the Evolution of Global Geopolitics, the Advancement of Military Modernization, and the Defense of the Constitutional Role of the Troops
During the ceremony in honor of Army Day, held this Wednesday (16) at the Army Headquarters in Brasília, the Army Commander, General Tomás Ribeiro Paiva, gave a speech highlighting changes in the international scenario. The event was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who, as in the previous year, did not speak.
Defense Investment: Global Transformations
General Paiva drew attention to the rapid transformation of global geopolitics. According to him, there is a significant increase in defense investments by various countries, requiring strategic attention from Brazil.
“By turning our gaze to the international scenario, we can verify that the world is undergoing a rapid and profound transformation in its traditional geopolitical structures. Defense investments are growing exponentially in all regions of the globe, a reality that suggests our country should pay heightened attention to the protection of Brazilians and the assets enshrined by the Constitution,” he stated.

Commitment to Legality
Without directly mentioning investigations involving military personnel, Paiva reaffirmed that the Army must act with professionalism and impartiality. He reinforced the role of the Armed Forces within constitutional limits and advocated for the unity of the troops.
“Our strength comes from the impartiality and professionalism that should always characterize our actions. Let us remain united, ready to overcome the challenges of the present and the future, always in defense of the homeland and the Brazilian people,” the commander stated.
Modernization Underway
The general also mentioned new equipment acquired by the force, such as ground surveillance radars, anti-tank missiles, and armored vehicles. For him, these advancements represent a necessary modernization process.
Notable Presences at the Ceremony
Among the guests were Senators Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) and Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP). Mourão greeted Lula with a formal handshake, while Alcolumbre was the only one to hug the president during the event.
