CNI Delegation Took 130 Businesspeople to the United States and Suggested That Lula Negotiate Mineral Exploration with Technology Transfer and International Financing
Brazilian businesspeople suggested to the federal government that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva bring proposals for cooperation between the two countries to the meeting with President Donald Trump.
According to CNN’s investigation, the topic of rare earths has been prominent in the discussions held so far.
Meetings and Suggestions
The proposal was presented to Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of the Republic, during a meeting held on Tuesday (30). The meeting was attended by 130 businesspeople, in a delegation organized by the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), which was in the United States to engage with representatives from the Treasury and State departments.

The mineral sector, however, approaches the subject with caution. According to executives consulted by CNN, the understanding is that “the ball is with the government.” Thus, companies are awaiting the content of any official proposal to express support or opposition.
Cooperation on Rare Earths and SAF
The central idea is to offer the United States the possibility of cooperation in the exploration of the 17 chemical elements known as rare earths. The plan would include technology transfer, geological mapping of Brazilian territory, and funding lines for the activity.
In addition to rare earths, executives suggested that Lula also discuss with Trump partnerships related to SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
Next Steps in Diplomacy
A diplomatic source told CNN that Brazil’s signal is that any commercial topic can be discussed. So far, there is no set date for the meeting between the two presidents.
The Brazilian government has already consulted Washington about the next steps. The expectation is that the White House will indicate a date, which will be evaluated by the Planalto Palace, for the meeting to be officially scheduled.
