Wind Energy Investments Generate 700 Direct Jobs. Wind energy has gained traction in Bahia, focusing on job creation.
This is because the state continues to lead wind energy production in the country, closing the first half of this year with 35% of the national generation of this type of renewable energy. The data comes from the energy indicators released by the State Department of Economic Development (SDE). The report also indicates that Bahia is a leader in the commercialization of wind energy auctions, with 32.46% of all marketed projects.
Today, Bahia has 233 wind farms. The energy generated can supply 17 million households, generating electricity for 51 million inhabitants in 23 municipalities. In total, the plants have created 91.6 thousand new jobs.
Wind Energy Generates Jobs in the State in Various Areas
It is not only the production of wind energy that brings benefits to Bahia. This is because companies that manufacture steel towers stimulate the market and can generate jobs. Today, Wind Towers of Northeast (TEN), a Bahia factory for steel towers, employs 700 workers.

While hydroelectric plants lose capacity due to evaporation caused by heat in the reservoirs, the Philippines are installing floating solar panels on the plants’ own lakes, generating energy, reducing evaporation by up to 70%, and cooling the panels to increase electrical efficiency at the same time.

Small and flexible hydropower plants can be a game-changer for clean energy by generating electricity in previously overlooked rivers, without requiring large dams or aggressively altering the water flow.

Dongfang breaks world record and manufactures 26 MW wind turbine in China with 137-meter blades that spin so slowly they appear stationary on the horizon.
The company is located in the municipality of Jacobina and operates continuously. The factory has four shifts of work per day, operating 24 hours. It prioritizes hiring local labor, currently employing 83% of workers from Jacobina.
The factory seeks to develop local labor through courses in partnership with SENAI. Its mission is to contribute to the growth of the region through job creation and clean energy.
Wind Energy Favors Job Creation in Brazil
A study conducted by the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica) pointed out that various positive effects of the wind sector impact the country’s economy, generating more jobs. The report was developed by Bráulio Borges, an associate researcher at FGV-IBRE and senior economist at LCA Consultores. The document indicated that nearly 196 thousand jobs were created in the sector between 2011 and 2020, with 10.7 jobs per MW installed during the construction phase of the farms.
The survey also pointed out an average of 0.6 jobs per MW installed for the operation and maintenance of the plants. Thus, Elbia Gannoum, President of ABEEólica, states that the organization works with figures ranging from 10 to 15 jobs per MW. Given this margin of 10.7, the rate appears to be conservative in its estimate, and it is now necessary to refine this data to find a more detailed scenario of job generation in the country.
Moreover, the document also indicated that each R$1.00 invested in wind energy has a direct impact on the country’s GDP. Based on the amount invested from 2011 to 2020, which was R$110.5 billion in the construction of wind farms. Finally, Gannoum states that it is proof that, besides being renewable, wind energy is also a gradual way to boost economic activities in the regions where the farms are installed. Therefore, the number is fundamental in a context where we discuss the recovery of the green economy.
