According to Company Director Guilherme Ferrari, Investments Will Be Directed Toward Wind and Solar Energy
Guilherme Ferrari, Director of New Investments at Engie Brazil Energy, stated that the company’s new investments will be directed toward the generation of wind and solar energy. “Even considering the end of the wire tariff subsidy (starting in 2022) and the strain on the supply chain, wind and solar sources remain more competitive and that’s where we will continue to direct our investments, looking for new M&A (acquisitions) opportunities and greenfield projects (new),” said the director during an event with investors.

Moreover, the director stated that the new investments in wind and solar energy, with participation in auctions, will be quoted for areas where Engie already has generation plants or transmission lines. Guilherme also mentioned that the company has a “robust” capacity of about 2.2 GW and highlighted that, in 2022, Engie intends to begin the implementation works of the Assu Solar project in Rio Grande do Norte.
Ferrari also mentioned that by 2025, there are 1 GW of Engie projects to be carried out, aiming to take advantage of the subsidies from the wire tariff, and that the company also intends to invest in the recently approved hybrid generation plants by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).

At 4,400 meters of altitude in the Himalayas, where the air is so thin it makes breathing difficult, India’s state oil company drilled a thousand meters of rock to reach a 240-degree subsoil and set up the country’s first geothermal plant.
By 2030, Engie aims to have accumulated a global capacity of 50 GW, with Brazil being a key piece for achieving this goal. According to Guilherme Ferrari, Engie intends to participate in this month’s bidding for the transmission sector. In addition, he stated that the company is also interested in the auctions of 2022.
Share Offering in the Stock Market
The CEO of Engie Brazil Energy, Eduardo Sattamini, stated that the company does not intend to make a follow-on in the short and medium term.
Despite this, Eduardo stated that Engie does not rule out the possibility of offering shares on the stock market in the future, given that the company has the potential to grow even more, but this could represent a new risky indebtedness. Thus, the sale of shares would be a way to keep Engie’s capital safe.
TAG Investment Plan
Guilherme Labanca, CEO of the Associated Gas Transporter (TAG), a company operating under Engie’s control, declared that the transporter can present a “more ambitious” investment project for the 2022-2026 quadrennium, compared to the current 2021-2025 plan, which forecasts R$ 1.5 billion.
The plan is currently under review. The director mentioned the company’s plans for the coming years, which include not only investments in the maintenance and integrity of existing lines but also the construction of new networks.
One of the projects aims to connect the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Sergipe to TAG’s gas pipeline network, covering a distance of 25 kilometers. The company also intends to start, next year, the works on the Gasfor II pipeline in Ceará. The goal is to reduce operational risks by relocating part of the current Gasfor pipeline from the Metropolitan region. To this end, R$ 250 million will be invested in 80 kilometers of network.
During an event with investors, Guilherme Labanca stated, “we want to be leaders by investing heavily,” regarding the opening of the gas market. Additionally, he commented on the prospects of transporting hydrogen, a function in which Engie already has experience in Europe.
