The Norwegian Oil and Gas Giant Equinor Selected Suppliers for Inspection Services Across All Offshore Installations in the Norwegian Continental Shelf and Onshore Plants in Norway
The contracts are scheduled to be signed shortly, Equinor said on Friday. The contracts will be granted to Aker Solutions, Axess, Oceaneering Asset Integrity, and IKM Operations, effective from January 1, 2020. The contracts have a fixed duration of six years with two additional options of four years.
The total value, including options, is estimated at slightly over NOK 3.5 billion (US $ 380.3 million), where the scope will employ between 300 and 400 people per year. “The agreements will ensure predictability for Equinor and the suppliers. They form the basis of a strong long-term collaboration, enabling the use of new technologies, achieving continuous improvements, and enhancing safety and value creation for all parties,” said Peggy Krantz-Underland, Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) of Equinor.
Revealing Weaknesses
According to Equinor, the main goal of the inspection services is to maintain all facilities in good condition and prepare for safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

The services will reveal weaknesses in onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities to avoid serious damage, with various technologies applied, such as ultrasound, radiography, and drone inspection, the company explained.
The agreements are designed to reward suppliers for overall improvements and specifically for the use of new technologies and digitalization.

Kjetil Hove, Senior Vice President of Operations Technology at Equinor, said: “We are already applying advanced ultrasound methods to reduce the radiation from using radiography. These are advanced technologies that we hope will be further developed. It is also exciting to see that drones are expected to mature from a niche product to become standard deliveries in these services. This will benefit our facilities, as we will have better methods to inspect elevated areas.”
