With an investment of over R$ 2 billion, the Salvador metro works will extend Line 1 to Campo Grande, benefiting thousands of passengers and boosting the creation of direct and indirect jobs in the Bahia capital.

Salvador is preparing to take a significant step in its urban mobility with the advancement of the metro works. The new extension of Line 1 to Campo Grande will not only facilitate the movement of thousands of users but will also generate approximately one thousand direct jobs, in addition to indirect opportunities in sectors such as commerce, services, and infrastructure.

Section 4 of Line 1: Strategic Connection to the Heart of Salvador

The new section, named Section 4, will have a 1.1 km underground extension and will connect the Lapa Station to the future Campo Grande Station.

The location of the new station is strategic, close to iconic spots such as the Castro Alves Theater, museums, hospitals, universities, and the official Carnival circuit.

According to the Government of Bahia, the work will be carried out by the Bahia Transport Company (CTB), with a forecast to directly benefit around 11,500 passengers per day.

The project is budgeted at R$ 1.518 billion, financed by resources from the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), and has the support of federal and state governments.

During the official announcement, held on Monday (9), Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, highlighted the positive impact of the works for Salvador.

The Secretary of Labor, Employment, Income, and Sports, Augusto Vasconcelos, emphasized that the intervention will not only generate jobs but will also stimulate economic development in the city center.

New Bid Provides for the Acquisition of 10 Modern Trains

In addition to the line expansion, a bid was launched for the acquisition of 10 new trains, each with a capacity of 1,250 passengers.

The contract is estimated at R$ 648.4 million, with R$ 616 million coming from the federal government.

As a result, the total investment in the two projects — line expansion and train purchase — amounts to R$ 2.166 billion, consolidating the commitment to modernizing public transport in the Bahia capital.

Salvador Moves Towards Having One of the Largest Railway Networks in Brazil

According to Vasconcelos, the ongoing interventions, including the construction of the VLT, position Salvador as one of the cities with the largest urban rail extensions in the country.

When completed, these works will total approximately 80 kilometers of railway network.

“Since last year, Bahia has led job creation in the Northeast, thanks to a public policy that focuses on infrastructure as a development engine,” said the secretary, emphasizing that the metro project reinforces this commitment.
