Billion-Dollar Investment to Expand Capacity and Improve Services on Over 700 km of Federal Highway in the North!
The first concession of a federal highway in the Northern region of Brazil has been approved, marking an important advancement for local infrastructure. The auction for BR-364, scheduled for February, involves an ambitious project of R$ 10.226 billion, with the goal of expanding capacity and improving service levels along 721.07 kilometers of the road.
The bidding document will be released on November 1st, initiating a process that promises to transform logistics and transportation in the Northern region.
The concession of a federal highway in the state of Rondônia is closer to becoming a reality. The proposal to transfer BR-364/RO to the private initiative was approved this Thursday (31/10) during a board meeting of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

The auction document will be available on the agency’s website starting this Friday (1/11). The bidding, at the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), is scheduled for February 27, at 2 PM. The auction will be won by whoever offers the highest discount on the basic toll rate.
Importance of BR-364 for the Economy of the Northern Region
According to the project coordinated by the Ministry of Transport, 721.07 kilometers of the highway will be granted, between the state capital, Porto Velho, and the municipality of Vilhena, on the border with Mato Grosso. This stretch connects the western part of Mato Grosso to the states of Rondônia and Acre, facilitating the distribution of products in the North of the country and export through the region’s ports.
“Today we approved another bidding document for BR-364/RO, the Agro Norte Route. This is the first concession in the state of Rondônia, a very important route for agribusiness. This project will be our twelfth auction, which will take place in February 2025,” emphasized the national secretary of Road Transportation, Viviane Esse. The expected investment is R$ 10.226 billion over the 30-year contract.

Planned Improvements in the Concession
The concession process includes the exploration of infrastructure and the provision of services for recovery, maintenance, conservation, operation, monitoring, implementation of improvements, maintenance of service levels, and capacity expansion of BR-364/RO. The contract will last for 30 years.
The winning bidder will be responsible for executing important works, including the implementation of 107.57 kilometers of duplications, 190.59 kilometers of additional lanes, 34.45 kilometers of new accesses, and 17.79 km of marginal roads. The estimate is that interventions and related services will generate over 94,900 jobs in the areas impacted by the concession, including direct, indirect jobs, and income effects.
Discussion on Optimizing the Concession of BR-101
Later this Thursday, ANTT’s board discussed the public consultation period regarding the proposal to optimize the concession of BR-101, between Bahia and Espírito Santo, currently managed by ECO 101 Concessionária de Rodovias S/A. Public hearings will be held to gather suggestions for the proposal of readjustment and optimization of the contract, covering a stretch with a total length of 478.7 kilometers, from the junction of BA-698 to the border between Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro states.
The period for submitting contributions runs from November 8 until 6 PM on December 23. Two public sessions will also be held, both in-person and via videoconference or another electronic means, with live broadcast on ANTT’s YouTube channel. Check the schedule:

The highway is a strategic corridor for the transportation of goods between the Southeast and Northeast regions of Brazil, also connecting productive areas and ports and facilitating the flow of goods between Bahia, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro. In tourism, the road’s importance lies in its connection to various historical cities and beaches along the Brazilian coast.
The approval of the BR-364/RO concession is an important step for the development of road infrastructure in Rondônia and Northern Brazil.
