State University of Rio de Janeiro Offers Free Distance Learning Degree Slots with Quotas and Affordable Fees. Selection is Conducted by the Cederj Consortium, and Exams Take Place on December 7, 2025.
The State University of Rio de Janeiro has extended the registration period for the Cederj Entrance Exam 2026/1 for distance learning degrees in Pedagogy, Geography, and Biological Sciences.
There are 940 free slots, with classes starting in the first semester of 2026, distributed among Cederj consortium centers in various cities across the state.
The selection is organized by the Cecierj Foundation and follows the quota policies of UERJ.

Slots and Courses Offered by UERJ
In the selection process, the Pedagogy program offers 480 slots, Geography has 280, and Biological Sciences provides 180.
All three degrees are offered in a distance learning format, but they include mandatory in-person sessions at regional centers, where assessments, practical activities, and tutorials take place.
The diploma is issued by UERJ, with academic support provided at Cederj centers, which offer support structure and laboratories.
Quotas and Criteria for Social Inclusion
The Cederj Entrance Exam for UERJ courses reserves 45% of the slots for candidates who fit within the university’s quota policies.
Among the beneficiaries are black people, indigenous people, quilombolas, graduates from public schools, people with disabilities, and children of security agents killed or incapacitated in service.
The distribution and competition among groups follow the rules defined in the announcement.
After applying the quotas, the remaining slots are allocated to general competition.
Course Structure and Teaching Model
Although they are distance learning courses, the model adopted by Cederj is hybrid.
Students have access to online content and free educational materials, available in both printed and digital formats.
According to information from the Cecierj Foundation, approved students receive a mobile phone chip with data and call packages to facilitate access to digital platforms.
In the case of Biological Sciences, the pedagogical project includes mandatory in-person field and laboratory practices.
Assessment and Admission Process
The selection occurs in a single stage, with an objective test and a writing test.
The content is based on high school subjects, according to the Candidates’ Manual.
The final ranking considers the sum of the scores from the two stages.
Candidates who have completed high school or are in the process of completion may participate, provided they prove completion at the time of enrollment.
The test is scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, with the results of the objective test being released on December 16 and the writing test results on December 22.
Study Locations and In-Person Centers
The UERJ slots are distributed across regional centers in cities such as Belford Roxo, Campo Grande, Magé, Nova Iguaçu, Niterói, Nova Friburgo, Paracambi, Petrópolis, Resende, Rocinha, São Pedro da Aldeia, Teresópolis, and Três Rios, among others.
In all courses, assessments and in-person activities follow a calendar defined by the institution, usually on weekends.
In Biological Sciences, there are field practices and supervised in-person internships, as required by the curriculum.

The Cederj Entrance Exam 2026/1 is coordinated by the Cecierj Foundation, in partnership with COSEAC/UFF.
