The Espírito Santo Projects a Significant Increase in Natural Gas Production, Achieving an Annual Growth of 5.2%.
The oil and natural gas industry in Espírito Santo is facing a promising rise, with expectations of increasing its natural gas production by 5.2% per year, rising from the current 4.2 million cubic meters per day to 5.5 million by 2028. These projections are part of the seventh edition of the Oil and Natural Gas Industry Yearbook in ES, recently released at the Anchieta Palace in Vitória.
The report, prepared by the Industry Observatory of the Federation of Industries of Espírito Santo (Findes), not only details the current state and perspectives of the sector at the state and national levels but also maps out future investments and the expansion of natural gas and oil production until 2028.
The Vital Role of Natural Gas in the Local Economy
During the opening of the event, Cris Samorini, president of Findes, emphasized the significant impact of natural gas on the economic development of Espírito Santo. The production of natural gas, especially onshore, has shown impressive growth, more than doubling its capacity. The entry of new companies, including SMEs, into the state’s oil and gas market has strengthened onshore production, expanding opportunities for the local supply chain and improving job and income generation.

Instead of demolishing old coal warehouses, London doubled their roofs until they met in the center and created one of the most curious renovations in King’s Cross.

Fungi transform engineered wood that is impossible to recycle into low-carbon insulation panels, reduce construction waste, save energy, and create a sustainable alternative for walls, floors, and roofs.
-
Bottle caps and pine sawdust replace discarded wood in concrete molds, reduce waste, reuse household residues, and create sustainable solutions in Brazilian construction projects.

While common slabs require expensive traditional concrete and constant maintenance, tests show that fibers from discarded carpets reduce life cycle costs and divert tons of textile waste from landfills.
Samorini highlighted that the announced investment by the sector jumped from nearly R$ 9 billion to about R$ 37 billion by 2028, reflecting the strategic role that Espírito Santo plays for companies planning and executing projects in the region. This substantial increase in investments indicates robust future development for the 12 projects mapped in the state, involving major players such as BW Energy, Petrobras, Prio, and Seacrest Petróleo.
Regulation and Future of the Piped Gas Market
Another crucial topic addressed at the launch of the yearbook was the regulation of the State Law on the Free Market of Piped Gas, approved at the end of 2020. The president of Findes expressed the importance of this regulation in making natural gas more accessible and competitive for local industries and how this is essential for creating a more favorable business environment.
The state governor, Renato Casagrande, also reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for business investment, leveraging modern legislation on natural gas to promote investments in biomethane and other initiatives that use petroleum resources to support the energy transition. The governor emphasized the importance of maximizing these natural resources to benefit environmental projects and funds intended for civil defense and sustainable development.
The discussion about the future of natural gas in Espírito Santo, therefore, not only highlights its growing role as a sustainable energy alternative but also as a vital vector for economic and industrial development in the region.
