Eduardo Riedel, governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, discusses an investment project with Mário Neto, director of development at Arauco, for setting up a pulp mill in the state, which will generate many jobs for the population.

Maintaining his commitment to the development of Mato Grosso do Sul, Governor Eduardo Riedel received, last Tuesday (31/01), Arauco's New Business Development director, Mário José de Souza Neto, to discuss the investments of the Chilean company in Inocência, located in the Bolsão region, about 337 kilometers from Campo Grande. During the construction phase of the pulp mill, the project will create new jobs for residents of the region.

Mario Neto presented the investment planning and Eduardo Riedel reinforced the dispositions for the infrastructure area to allow the flow of production and support the population increase in the municipality.

The Sucuriú Project, in Inocência, foresees a private investment of US$3 billion, with 12 thousand people working in the construction process of the factory.

The governor stressed the importance of the role of the State and the transformation brought about by the investment. “We discussed the counterparts of the State, roads, paving, railway line, optical fiber, which have to reach the company, all the actions that the State has to take to make this one of the biggest private investments in Brazil possible and which starts from this year, the forestry area, which is the production base for the pulp company. So, we deliver on a daily basis the actions of the State Government to make this unit viable”, said Riedel.

He completed his speech by pointing out that the project is in line with the future for Mato Grosso do Sul, as the investment will bring new fields of employment, income and opportunities for the people of Inocência.

The implementation of the pulp mill will bring economic, social and sustainable development to the municipality

Director Mário Neto also comments on the investment. He points out that the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul is giving excellent support to the enterprise, and that, due to this support, the ties between the company and the State were more vigorous.

“We are very confident with the Sucuriú project, with the cooperation of the State and Municipal Governments. Since the beginning, the project has always been structured this way: a team effort by the Government, the Municipality and Arauco. This project, like Arauco's DNA, is strongly based on the three pillars of ESG (best environmental, social and governance practices) and sustainability and we are certain that it will bring economic and social development and a highly sustainable footprint in the company. way of managing and executing projects here in the State, making Mato Grosso do Sul truly consolidate itself as the Vale da Celulose”, he commented.

Jaime Verruck, secretary for the Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, highlighted that Mato Grosso do Sul is on its way to becoming the largest pulp producer in the world and also highlighted the importance of the State's counterparts.

“We have the construction of a factory in Ribas do Rio Pardo and, now, the Arauco project, in the same dimension, in the municipality of Inocência. Mato Grosso do Sul, we call it Vale da Celulose, exactly for that reason. We are the 2nd in pulp production, the 1st in exports, but with these projects we will be the biggest pulp producing state in the world and with highly sustainable projects”, he declared.
