Workers’ Return Is Anticipated by Fiat After the Parts Stock Shows Improvements. 970 of the 1800 Workers Returned to Active Duty
Upon realizing that the worst phase of the parts supply crisis has passed, Fiat advanced, on Monday, the return of 970 of the 1800 employees who had been away for about two months from the Betim factory, in the state of Minas Gerais (MG).
On December 10, during a press conference given by Fiat, Antonio Filosa, the president of Stellantis in the region, projected that the light vehicle market is expected to grow by 10% to 12% in 2022. This data is based on the belief that there will be greater balance in the supply of electronic components starting next year.

“Regarding semiconductors, we have signs that balance is starting to appear. It won’t be fully balanced, but it will improve compared to previous performance”, stated Filosa.
According to the president, suppliers along with the global automotive industry are working to resolve the chip shortage, which is currently the main culprit for the decreased production of automakers like Fiat.
“I can’t be crazy and say that problems are going to end, but I see signs of improvement in the supply of semiconductors… We should have fewer problems in 2022”, stated Antonio Filosa.
Fiat: Sales Leader
According to Filosa, Fiat ended the year as the most consumed car brand in the country due to losing fewer products compared to the competition in the “battle for semiconductors.” According to the president’s analysis, this fact led Fiat to gain 2.5 percentage points in market share.
With the goal of not losing its prominent position to other automakers, Fiat counts on the strong acceptance of recent launches, as well as those upcoming next year. “We planted the seeds to have a year full of new models in 2022, when we will also launch more cars. The only right I have after asking for so many investments from shareholders is to grow.”
Despite the fluctuations characteristic of election years, especially regarding currency, the Stellantis management renewed the investment program, which was launched more than two years ago, and anticipates R$ 7.5 billion by 2023 at the production unit for Fiat and Jeep models in Pernambuco.
This amount also refers to acquiring new parts suppliers, with the goal of securing 60 of them in the vicinity of the manufacturing conglomerate.
Regarding Fiat’s financial performance in South America, Antonio Filosa stated that the announcement is the responsibility of the global president of the automaker, Carlos Tavares. However, Filosa announced that profitability has increased compared to last year, when profit margins were very thin.
