Meet the New Ford Ranger Super Duty: Most Robust Mid-Size Pickup Ever Made, but No Plans for Brazil.
Ford’s New Bet in the Pickup Segment
Ford introduced the Ranger Super Duty in Australia, the most robust and resilient version of the mid-size pickup ever made. The launch occurred recently in the Australian market and drew attention for combining a reinforced chassis, V6 turbo-diesel engine, and performance capable of surpassing even the traditional F-150 in towing capacity.
Despite expectations, the newcomer is unlikely to arrive in Brazil or other markets outside of Oceania, remaining exclusive to tackle the severe conditions of the Australian outback.
So, what makes this pickup so special?
-
Peugeot publicly acknowledged the errors of the PureTech engine, which caused serious failures in hundreds of thousands of cars, and introduced the new Turbo 100 as a definitive solution, a 1.2 turbo tested for over 3 million kilometers that replaces the faulty belt with a more durable chain.
-
Automatic cars become ‘cheap’ in Brazil, and models from Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, and Honda appear for R$ 65,000 with up to 120 hp, CVT transmission, 482 liters of trunk space, keyless entry, and six airbags to tackle traffic without a clutch.
-
Honda revives a classic from Brazilian streets with a new name, TFT panel, and reprogrammed engine in the 2027 lineup; see the first impressions of the CB500 Hornet, which arrives with 49.6 hp, 4.5 kgf.m torque, 6-speed gearbox, 175 kg, and Showa suspension on Brazilian streets.
-
Without relying on an outlet, without a cable, and without the gasoline engine driving the wheels: Nissan created the Note e-POWER, a hatchback that always runs on an electric motor while a combustion engine works only as a generator, delivering to Japan a type of “electric without recharging” that Brazil is almost unfamiliar with.
Reinforced Structure and Heavy-Duty Preparation
The Ranger Super Duty was designed for those who demand extreme durability in challenging terrains. Its chassis has received structural reinforcements, just like the suspension supports.
The rear axle is also specific to handle heavy loads and adverse situations.
Additionally, the pickup gained extra underbody protection, with steel plates to preserve the main mechanical components on trails and rough terrains.
These adjustments make it ideal for heavy work in regions where toughness is essential.
Dimensions and Off-Road Ready Tires
Visually, the Ford Ranger Super Duty stands out with a larger build.
It is slightly taller and wider than the Raptor version, offering up to 30 cm of ground clearance and a 36.3° approach angle in the Single-Cab Chassis configuration.
Another highlight is the eight-bolt wheels, which use thicker bolts, increasing resistance.
They are shod with 33-inch off-road tires, similar to those of the Ranger Raptor, reinforcing its off-road vocation.
V6 Turbo-Diesel Engine and Impressive Performance
At the heart of the pickup is the V6 3.0 Turbo-Diesel engine, tuned to deliver 207 hp, a slightly lower power than the conventional Ranger, which has 247 hp.
However, the torque remains robust at 61.2 kgfm, coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
This combination guarantees a towing capacity of up to 4,500 kg, almost two tons more than the regular Ranger and even surpassing the entry-level version of the F-150.
The bed also does not disappoint: it supports 1,981 kg of cargo, assisted by an integrated scale that displays the weight in real-time on the multimedia system.
Technologies and Features for Any Terrain
To tackle different conditions, Ford equipped the Ranger Super Duty with locking differentials front and rear, as well as various driving modes: Normal, Eco, Tow, Slippery, Mud, Sand, and Rock Crawl.
As standard, the model already includes a snorkel for wading through flooded areas and an enlarged fuel tank for 130 liters, ensuring greater autonomy.
Technological and Functional Interior
Even being a pickup aimed at heavy work, the Ranger Super Duty did not overlook comfort.
The dashboard is digital, with an 8-inch display, and the vertical 12-inch multimedia center is equipped with the Sync 4 system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly.
This way, the driver has connectivity and practicality even in the most challenging scenarios.
Prices and Availability
In Australia, prices start at approximately R$ 291 thousand for the Single-Cab version and can reach R$ 345 thousand with options.
Although it is an attractive offer for those seeking power and durability, the Ford Ranger Super Duty has no forecast to arrive in Brazil or the United States.
For now, Brazilians and Americans will have to admire this pickup from afar, hoping that one day the brand rethinks its strategy and expands the model’s markets.
