Driving the Clean Energy Sector in Brazil
The Brazilian capital, Brasília, witnessed an important milestone for the clean energy sector with the inauguration of the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Clean Energy (FREPEL) this Tuesday (28). This body, led by federal deputy Lafayette de Andrada and composed of 220 parliamentarians, promises to be a catalyst for the sector’s development in Brazil. The event, held in the Noble Hall of the Chamber of Deputies, brought together influential figures from the country’s clean energy market.
A Strategic Partnership with INEL
FREPEL will rely on the essential collaboration of INEL (National Institute of Clean Energy), which will play a crucial role by providing technical content and studies to support the group’s decisions. Heber Galarce, president of INEL, expressed the institute’s pride in actively contributing to the working group, providing valuable information and studies about the sector. The partnership with INEL aims to enhance parliamentary discussions and encourage the development of renewable sources, such as solar energy and green hydrogen.
Focus on the Potential of Solar Energy
Gustavo Tegon, Secretary of Solar Energy at INEL, highlighted the significant role of photovoltaic solar energy in Brazil. Currently, the sector represents more than R$ 166.9 billion in new investments, creating over 1 million new jobs. Tegon emphasized the importance of discussing and advancing urgent issues in the sector, such as the inclusion of Distributed Generation in the budget of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program. This debate is crucial for bringing clean and renewable energy to low-income families, reducing costs, and fostering jobs.

The Importance of FREPEL for the Energy Sector
FREPEL will serve as a vital platform to advocate for issues related to clean and renewable energies. Among its objectives are the promotion of energy production from renewable sources, improvement of legislation on public policies for alternative energies, promotion of technological research, and attraction of private investments in clean energy production. This body will play a crucial role in transforming Brazil from a supplier of raw materials to an exporter of value-added products and services related to clean energy.
A Sustainable and Efficient Future
The FREPEL initiative is a significant step for Brazil, which seeks to consolidate its position as a global leader in clean and sustainable energy. This mixed parliamentary front aims not only to advance discussions on clean energy but also to ensure that these practices translate into tangible benefits for all Brazilians. FREPEL represents a commitment to a more sustainable, efficient, and innovative future for the country’s energy sector.
