After Months Of Paralysis, General Motors Will Resume Production Of The Chevrolet Onix And Onix Plus, Which Should Arrive At Dealerships In Most Of The Country At The End Of Next Month Costing Up To R$ 100 Thousand

General Motors will resume production of the Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus at its plant in Gravataí, Rio Grande do Sul, this Monday (16). The factory, which has had its automobile production halted since April due to a shortage of components, will resume activities partially with only one shift, but bringing the Onix back to the automaker’s dealerships.

General Motors Will Still Suffer Despite The Resumption Of Production Of The Models

Despite the good news for General Motors, the Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus may take time to reach dealerships. In a statement released this week, the automaker states that the 2022 hatch and sedan line will begin arriving at dealerships throughout Brazil only in September.

Therefore, General Motors will still face some difficulties in the sales ranking for the remainder of August and until the end of next month, likely regaining better positions only in October, that is, if the production of vehicles is not interrupted in the factories again.

Chevrolet Sees Sales Of The Onix And Onix Plus Plummet At Dealerships

Undoubtedly, the General Motors company most affected by the semiconductor shortage is Chevrolet. With the shutdowns occurring since the beginning of the pandemic, the brand observed the sales of the Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus plummet in the rankings.

In fact, in May, General Motors reached a negative record of having no vehicles in the top 10 best-sellers of Fenabrave, a situation that was repeated in June and July. Additionally, the decline in dealership sales allowed Fiat and Hyundai to grow in the market.

The HB20, for instance, managed to reach for the first time the title of the best-selling passenger car in the vehicle market in a semester. Meanwhile, the Fiat Argo became the substitute for the Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus, entering the list of the three best-selling cars in recent months.

What Will The 2022 Line Of The Chevrolet Onix And Onix Plus Look Like?

The 2022 line will not have any news for now. The models will continue being sold with the 1.0 turbo mechanical systems, manual or automatic with six speeds, or 1.0 naturally aspirated, manual transmission with six gears.

Although not in the dealerships, the brand already offers the versions and prices of the two models in its configurator. The prices of the Onix Plus vary from R$ 68,390 to R$ 97,750, with its metallic paint causing it to reach up to R$ 99,350.

The Onix Hatch ranges from R$ 66,450 to R$ 93,190. These values are mentioned in standardized labels for a large part of Brazil. In the state of São Paulo, for example, which operates with a higher ICMS rate, prices can be even higher.
