Gerdau, a leader in steel production in Brazil, remains the champion of the Metallurgy and Siderurgy sector, standing out for its superior performance. Recognized in the 24th edition of the Valor 1000 Award, Gerdau continues to demonstrate its relevance in the national landscape.

The recognition by Gerdau at this award reflects the Company’s commitment and excellence in its operations. As the largest Brazilian steel producer, Gerdau reaffirms its prominent position, significantly contributing to the development of the metallurgical industry in the country.

Recognition and Appreciation

The Valor Econômico newspaper, in collaboration with Serasa Experian and the FGV School of Business Administration, highlighted Gerdau in the Brazilian industrial scenario. This recognition reaffirms the Company’s position as an important reference in the sector.

During the award ceremony for the Valor 1000 Award, which took place on Monday night (16) in São Paulo, Gerdau’s CEO, Gustavo Werneck, expressed his satisfaction with the achievement. ‘This award is a reflection of the efforts of our more than 30,000 employees, who work daily to create value for our stakeholders and build a more sustainable future’, said Werneck. Gerdau is firmly committed to addressing society’s challenges and dilemmas, and for the Company, this recognition provides confidence that they are on the right path.

Results and Performance

In addition to the recognition, winning the ‘Company of the Year’ award in the Metallurgy and Siderurgy sector also reflects the solid performance presented by Gerdau over the past year. Gerdau closed 2023 with the third-best result in its 123-year history, with adjusted EBITDA of R$ 13.5 billion and an adjusted EBITDA margin of 19.6%. The Company’s adjusted net profit totaled R$ 6.9 billion last year.

The Valor 1000 Award is one of the most important business awards in Brazil, highlighting companies that excel in terms of performance, management, and contribution to the country’s economic development. The award lists the 1000 largest companies in Brazil, evaluating various categories across 28 economic sectors, based on criteria such as results and performance from the previous year, the pillars of the ESG agenda (Environmental, Social, and Governance), corporate governance, social engagement, sustainability initiatives, and respect for consumers.

History and Innovation

With 123 years of existence, Gerdau is the largest Brazilian steel producer and one of the leading suppliers of long steels in the Americas and special steels worldwide. In Brazil, the Company also produces flat steels, in addition to iron ore for its own consumption. To expand its horizons, Gerdau has a new business division, Gerdau Next, focused on ventures in segments adjacent to steel.

With a clear purpose of empowering people who are building the future, Gerdau is present in several countries and has over 30,000 employees in all its operations. The largest recycler in Latin America, the company uses scrap as its main raw material: over 70% of the steel produced by Gerdau is made from this material. Annually, Gerdau transforms 11 million tons of scrap into various steel products, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Sustainability and Future

The Company is also the largest producer of charcoal in the world, with over 250,000 hectares of forest base in the state of Minas Gerais. As a result of its sustainable production matrix, Gerdau has one of the lowest averages of greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e) in the sector, of 0.91 t of CO₂e per ton of steel, representing approximately half of the global average for the sector, which is 1.91 t of CO₂e per ton of steel, according to worldsteel data.

For the future, Gerdau’s goal is ambitious: by 2031, the Company aims to reduce its carbon emissions to 0.82 t of CO₂e per ton of steel. Gerdau’s shares are listed on the stock exchanges of São Paulo (B3) and New York (NYSE), demonstrating the Company’s solidity and relevance in the global financial market.

This broad operation and the significant results reaffirm Gerdau’s crucial role in industrial and sustainable development, consolidating its image as a cutting-edge company and a reference in the metallurgy and siderurgy sector on the global stage.
