According to Pedro Torres, the Director of Global Communications and Institutional Relations at Gerdau, there is an intense commitment to transparent dialogue and continuity. This commitment seeks to ensure a positive impact in all areas of the company’s activities around the world. The study, conducted by the Caliber consulting firm in collaboration with Meio&Mensagem, links brand management to reputation management, discovering the corporations that stand out the most in this regard.
High-Precision Methodology
The analysis is based on a set of twenty criteria, covering the knowledge and familiarity that the brand has in the market, the ESG pillars that include Environmental, Social, and Governance aspects, in addition to highlighting brand strength and image perception. Among the evaluated topics are advocacy in advocacy, loyalty, recommendation, and employability. This ranking has a quarterly update, covering the period from July to September 2024, and in this edition, it featured an evaluation of 120 brands from 23 different sectors.
History and Commitment to Sustainability
With a rich history of innovation and development, Gerdau not only leads as the largest Brazilian steel producer but is also a heavyweight name in the Americas when it comes to long steels and in the world of special steels. On the national stage, it also dedicates itself to the production of flat steels and carries out the extraction of iron ore for its own industrial use. Gerdau takes pride in being the leading recycler in Latin America, using scrap as one of its main raw materials. Currently, over 70% of the steel produced by Gerdau comes from this recyclable material. Annually, they transform 11 million tons of scrap into various steel products. In addition, the largest producer of charcoal walks hand in hand with its reputation, with vast 250,000 hectares of plantation in the state of Minas Gerais.
Expressive Sustainable Performance
Thanks to a sustainable production model, Gerdau boasts one of the lowest greenhouse gas emissions rates on the planet, at 0.91 t of CO₂e per ton of steel produced, almost 50% below the global average of 1.91 t of CO₂e per ton, according to worldsteel. For 2031, the company has set the goal of reducing this rate to 0.82 t of CO₂e per ton. Thus, Gerdau’s shares continue to be traded on major stock exchanges, such as B3 in São Paulo and NYSE in New York, continuing to establish good practices in the industry and strengthening image perceptions and reputation attributes.
