Unprecedented purchase of IWI Negev machine guns integrates security package in Paraná, which gathers weapons, vehicles, boats, armored vehicles, and a new Bope structure in an expansion aimed at high-complexity operations and integrated response of state forces.
The Government of Paraná confirmed the purchase of the first machine guns in the history of state public security, in an acquisition conducted by the State Secretariat of Public Security (Sesp), as part of a package to reinforce state corporations.
The acquisition includes four units of the Israeli model IWI Negev, purchased for US$ 84,000 and intended to prepare police forces for actions related to tackling more complex crimes in the State.
According to an official release by the State News Agency, the purchase was announced on June 3, 2026, and is part of an investment agenda announced by the state government for public security.

According to Sesp, the acquired machine guns are of the light type, and the IWI Negev model is used in more than 60 countries, including by the Israel Defense Forces.
The agency stated that the equipment could be used in preparing Paraná’s security forces for operations that require technical capability, integration between specialized units, and specific action protocols.
The state Secretary of Public Security, Saulo Sanson, stated that the State has combined structure, technology, and intelligence to expand the actions of public security corporations.
According to Sanson, the goal is to raise the level of preparation and strengthen the ability of state forces to anticipate criminal actions that require a specialized response.
Record package expands public security equipment
The purchase of the machine guns occurs at the same time the State is executing a package announced by the government as the largest investment ever made in the area, with R$ 338 million allocated to public security.
The set includes 3,200 weapons, 1,245 vehicles, 29 boats, computer equipment, communication systems, forensic technology, specialized materials, and the new headquarters of the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) of the Paraná Military Police.
Presented on May 5, 2026, the R$ 338 million package was announced by the Government of Paraná as an action aimed at strengthening different fronts of state public security.
In addition to the new armaments and vehicles, the initiative includes areas of rescue, ostensive policing, investigation, forensics, communication, special operations, and logistical support for the forces.
Located in São José dos Pinhais, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, the new headquarters of Bope is part of the operational modernization strategy of the Paraná Military Police.
The complex includes administrative spaces, training areas, simulation environments, and structures aimed at standardizing protocols for incidents classified as high complexity.
With a land area of 161 thousand square meters, the structure was designed to concentrate training activities, specialized response, and support for operations conducted in different regions of Paraná.
According to the state government, the headquarters is expected to enhance the capacity to respond to critical situations and bring together, in one space, activities previously distributed across different structures.
Armaments and technology strengthen the forces’ performance
In the area of armaments, the reinforcement reported by the State includes 1,500 carbines caliber 5.56 x 45 mm and 1,700 pistols caliber 9 mm.
The package also includes 800 incapacitating electric devices and 17 thousand pepper spray dispensers, equipment used at different levels of operational response by the forces.
Commenting on the delivery, Sanson described the moment as historic for Paraná’s public security, in a statement attributed by the state administration to the secretary.
“We are putting on the streets a robust set of equipment and structures that strengthen the performance of security forces in all regions of the State,” stated the secretary.
The investment also includes forensic technology, communication systems, and computer equipment, areas that the state government associates with the integration between investigations, forensics, and field operations.
According to the proposal presented by Sesp, the modernization aims to connect different stages of public security work, from emergency response to the use of intelligence in operational planning.
Armored vehicles arrive for high-risk operations
Another axis of the package is the incorporation of armored vehicles for use in higher-risk operations, according to information released by the Government of Paraná.
The set includes seven units of Canadian origin, with four allocated to the Paraná Military Police, two to the Civil Police, and one to the Penal Police.
The investment reported by the government for this acquisition is R$ 24.18 million, an amount allocated to the purchase of armored vehicles and the expansion of the specialized fleet.
According to the state administration, these vehicles were acquired for crisis management actions, combating high-complexity crimes, and interventions in attempts to rescue prisoners.
The government also reported that the armored vehicles follow international standards and are expected to enhance the protection of teams in critical situations, including operations conducted in border regions.
The purchase of the armored vehicles was initially announced in February 2026, when the State communicated that two vehicles were already on their way to Brazil.
At the time, the state administration stated that the reinforcement would serve specialized units, such as Bope, the Tigre Group of the Civil Police, and the Special Operations Sector of the Penal Police.
With the incorporation of this equipment, the specialized response fleet now complements the set of conventional vehicles delivered to the corporations within the same investment package.
According to Sesp, the distribution of the vehicles and other structures follows operational criteria, regional demands, and the profile of incidents attended by each security force.
Firefighters receive boats for rescues
The Military Fire Brigade of Paraná was also included in the investment package announced by the state government for the public security area.
The corporation received five jet skis of the Rescue Runner type, intended for search and rescue actions in hard-to-reach aquatic environments, such as flooded areas, rapids, and locations affected by floods.
These boats use jet propulsion, without an external propeller, a configuration that, according to the technical purpose of the equipment, reduces risks during rescue operations and allows approach in sensitive points.
The delivery occurs in a context of expanding the structure aimed at responding to aquatic emergencies and incidents related to climatic events in Paraná.
In addition to the jet skis, the package includes speedboats, boats, inflatable vessels, vehicles, and diving equipment intended for the Military Fire Brigade of Paraná.
According to the state government, this structure is expected to increase the capacity to respond to simultaneous incidents or in regions where land access is compromised.
Distribution of equipment follows operational demand
Sesp reported that there is planning to distribute the equipment among the corporations according to the operational demands identified in each region of Paraná.
Vehicles and structures are to be sent to state units according to the need for reinforcement, the profile of incidents, and the performance of each security force.
The package brings together the Military Police, Civil Police, Penal Police, Fire Brigade, and specialized support structures, with investments distributed across different areas of operation.
According to the plan presented by the state government, the resources include fleet, weaponry, technology, technical equipment, vessels, armored vehicles, and operational bases for the corporations.
The purchase of the IWI Negev machine guns was highlighted in the announcement as it is the first acquisition of this type of weaponry in the history of Paraná’s public security.
Despite the emphasis on the machine guns, they represent only a part of the modernization package announced by the State, which also includes vehicles, vessels, armored vehicles, technical equipment, and new facilities.
With the delivery of the equipment and the new Bope structure, the state government claims it intends to enhance response capability in incidents classified as more complex.
The execution of the package will be linked to the distribution of resources, team training, and integration between the security forces responsible for operations in Paraná.
