Section of SC-486 between Brusque and Itajaí now has a new authorized limit after revitalization, with changes restricted to part of the Antônio Heil Highway and maintenance of previous speeds in other segments of the road.
The Government of Santa Catarina authorized the increase of the speed limit on a section of SC-486, the Antônio Heil Highway, between Brusque and Itajaí, in the Itajaí Valley, after the completion of revitalization works and technical analysis of the road.
Since Thursday (04), drivers can travel up to 100 km/h between kilometers 13.753 and 20, in Brusque, in a segment where the previously allowed maximum speed was 80 km/h.
Announced on Wednesday night (03), during the opening of Fenajeep, in Brusque, the change was presented by the state government along with the delivery of the interventions carried out on the highway.

The United Kingdom faces a queue of 27 decommissioned nuclear submarines to dismantle: military steel hulls, deactivated reactors, and decades of service at the bottom of the sea have become one of the most challenging scraps on the planet in a billion-dollar operation that can recycle up to 90% of each submerged giant.
According to the Government of Santa Catarina, the change was based on technical studies by the State Department of Infrastructure and Mobility, which evaluated the current conditions of the road after the works executed on the section.
New speed limit on SC-486
The new limit applies only to the segment of just over six kilometers located in Brusque, between kilometers 13.753 and 20 of the Antônio Heil Highway.
In other parts of SC-486, the maximum speeds remain unchanged, especially in areas with higher urban circulation, access to neighborhoods, companies, services, and sections that require specific travel rules.
In the coming weeks, the vertical signage is expected to be replaced by the State Department of Infrastructure and Mobility, with the installation of signs corresponding to the new authorized limit.
Even before the signage is changed, Secretary Ricardo Grando stated that drivers can already travel through the Brusque section according to the new parameter defined by the State.
“From this Thursday, drivers can already travel through the section at the new speed limit, and in the coming weeks, the SIE will change the vertical signage,” said Grando.
According to the secretary, the other segments of the highway continue with the previous limits because they pass through areas of higher urban circulation or have different characteristics from the section that received the authorization.
Works on the Antônio Heil Highway
The works delivered by the state government covered the 47.7 kilometers of the duplicated extension of SC-486, in the section between Itajaí and Brusque.
The reported investment was R$ 12.4 million, applied in pavement recovery services, restoration of damaged points, and interventions to support circulation on the highway.
The work carried out includes milling, restoration of compromised sections, application of a new asphalt layer, improvements to the drainage system, platform cleaning, and implementation of horizontal and vertical signage.
According to the state government, the revitalization served as a basis for the technical analysis that allowed the speed limit to be raised in the authorized section, without changing the rules in other points of SC-486.
During the ceremony, Governor Jorginho Mello stated that the delivery meets a regional demand and aims to improve the travel conditions for those who use the highway.
“We are delivering a safer, more modern highway prepared to serve those who work, produce, and need to travel every day,” declared the governor during the event in Brusque.
Connection between Brusque and Itajaí
The Antônio Heil Highway connects Brusque and Itajaí, in the Itajaí Valley, and serves drivers who use SC-486 for daily commutes, goods transportation, and circulation between municipalities in the region.
With the change, those traveling through the authorized section will encounter a higher limit on part of the road, while other segments remain subject to the existing speed rules.
The mayor of Brusque, André Vechi, stated that the revitalization was a long-standing demand of the region and mentioned the partnership with the state government during the delivery of the works.
According to Vechi, the intervention contributes to the mobility of Brusque and neighboring cities, in addition to meeting a demand presented by residents and highway users.
“The revitalization of Antônio Heil was an important demand for the entire region. This partnership with the State Government allows works awaited by the population to come off the drawing board and bring more safety, mobility, and development to Brusque and neighboring cities,” declared the mayor.
Change does not apply to the entire highway
Despite the authorized expansion in part of the Antônio Heil Highway, the state government informed that the change does not apply to the entire SC-486.
For this reason, drivers must observe the signage of each section, as urban areas, accesses, and points with higher circulation remain subject to the previous speed limits.
The limit update occurs after the delivery of the revitalization, but the replacement of the signs will still be carried out by the State Department of Infrastructure and Mobility over the coming weeks.
In practice, the authorization only changes the section indicated by the state government, between kilometers 13.753 and 20, while circulation in other points follows the existing signage.
