More Than 9 Thousand Brazilian Workers Will Benefit From Changes to the Workweek Promoted by the Federal Public Administration
A measure announced by the Federal Government brought relief to a specific group of Brazilian workers. The new rule reduces the weekly workload from 44 hours to 40 hours, benefiting 9 thousand professionals who perform continuous functions in the federal public administration. The change was formalized through a normative instruction published by the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) and should be renewed soon, according to the FDR website.
These professionals are hired with exclusive dedication and work in essential areas of public service. According to the Deputy Secretary of Management and Innovation, Kathyana Buonafina, the measure modernizes administrative contracts and strengthens labor relations, promoting greater fairness for these workers.
Categories Covered by the New Rule
The reduction of the weekly work schedule covers outsourced workers who perform various support roles for the public administration. Among the benefited categories are:

- 12×36 Schedule (12 hours of work followed by 36 hours of rest)
- 24×72 Schedule (24 hours of work followed by 72 hours of rest)
Additionally, the adaptation of existing contracts will be made through adjustment terms, following current legislation.
Objective of the Reduction of Working Hours
The main objective of the Government with the reduction is to improve the working conditions for outsourced employees performing essential functions. The measure reflects the Federal Government’s effort to advance the modernization of labor relations and provide a fairer environment for these professionals.
This initiative from the Government also aligns with recent discussions about the reduction of working hours in Brazil. The discussion has gained momentum, especially focusing on improving the quality of life for workers and increasing productivity in the professional environment.
