The US Government Is Offering a Free Course on Artificial Intelligence Targeted at Brazilians. The Course Will Take Place from August 26 to September 5 and Will Cover a Wide Variety of Relevant Topics.
The Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Brazil are accepting applications for a free course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) focusing on the Brazilian audience. The training offered by the US Government, in partnership with Redes Cordiais and the Institute of Technology and Society (ITS-Rio), targets students and professionals in the sector in Brazil.
Main Details About the Free Artificial Intelligence Course
In this course offered by the US Government, the first lesson will provide an overview of AI and journalism and popular applications of artificial intelligence, such as pattern and image recognition, natural language processing, computer vision, and recommendation systems.
The lesson will take place on August 26 from 7 PM to 8:30 PM Brasília time. Among the instructors are: Fabro Steibel, Executive Director of the Institute of Technology and Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio).

The second lesson aims to delve into the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Journalism, aiming to present the changes in journalism business models due to AI, in addition to resources and new possibilities of action for journalists and news organizations.
This lesson of the free course on artificial intelligence will take place on the 27th from 7 PM to 8:30 PM and will be taught by the instructors: Guilherme Amado, Content Director of Redes Cordiais [English] and Samaruddin Kassim Stewart, Consultant with experience at Google and Stanford.
The third lesson aims to focus on Ethics and AI, focusing on presenting the importance of transparency, reliability, and ethics in artificial intelligence systems and in journalistic work with AI. It is scheduled for the 29th, and the instructors will be Garance Burke, Investigative Journalist at the Associated Press, and Fernanda Rodrigues, a researcher at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Iris Institute. It is worth mentioning that there will also be other classes such as Disinformation and AI, Regulation of AI in Brazil and Worldwide, Good and Bad Uses of AI in Electoral Contexts, among others.

Registrations for the free course on artificial intelligence can be made until August 26. The registration page will require information such as Full Name, Email, CPF, State, Profession, Gender, among other details.
According to Luke Ortega, spokesperson for the Embassy and Consulates, it is believed that by engaging with these issues, Brazilian journalists can better serve their audience and uphold the principles of responsible reporting.
The spokesperson also emphasizes that this free course on artificial intelligence from the US Government will equip journalists with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving landscape of political journalism.
