Chinese Company That Already Has a Factory in Sorocaba, in the Interior of São Paulo, Will Build Another One in a Paulista City to Be Defined
The visit of the Governor of São Paulo, João Doria, and his delegation to China has already yielded a significant result. The Huawei, a Chinese giant that manufactures cell phones, tablets, and similar products, announced that it will build its second factory in Brazil.
The company already has a factory in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, which employs 2,000 direct employees and 15,000 indirect ones.
Investments in the new unit, in a location yet to be defined, will be around US$ 800 million in the interior of the State of São Paulo and will supply not only the Brazilian domestic market but also all of South America.
The announcement was made by Huawei itself last Friday (09/08) during the visit of the São Paulo delegation led by Governor João Doria to China.

The São Paulo Delegation
Present at the announcement in Shanghai were Governor João Doria, Secretary of Finance and Planning Henrique Meirelles, Secretary of Economic Development Patrícia Ellen, and Secretary of International Relations Julio Serson, along with Steven Shen, Vice President of Huawei Brazil, and Atilio Rulli, Senior Director of Public and Government Relations from the Chinese side.
Huawei’s investments will not be limited to the new factory; the company also expects to invest an amount yet to be defined in the Institute of Technological Research (IPT) between 2020 and 2022, to be used for technology and innovation.
Another anticipated investment by the company in São Paulo will be in the area of education, in a program led by Secretary of Education Rossieli Soares.
“It is a program for innovation, technology, and digitalization of the public elementary and basic education network” that aims, by the end of 2022, for public state schools to no longer use chalk and blackboards, but rather computers, tablets, smartphones, and cutting-edge technology, which would be used by both teachers and students.
The visit to China by the São Paulo delegation arrived in Beijing on Monday (05/08) and will stay until Sunday (11/08), with a schedule of meetings with Chinese businesses and institutions also in the province of Xi’an.
