HydroWing Opens Office in Wales to Support Development of Tidal Energy Project in Morlais, Anglesey, Driving Renewable Energy Goals.

HydroWing is expanding its operations with the opening of a new branch in Wales, to support the development of its tidal stream energy project in Morlais, Anglesey.

The company secured a contract in the latest UK round of government’s ‘Contracts for Difference’ allocation for a 10 MW tidal stream energy project in Morlais, the largest consented tidal energy scheme in the UK. This agreement reinforces HydroWing’s commitment to advancing renewable energy technology.

HydroWing: Expansion to New Base at M-SParc

The new office is located at M-SParc, a science park in Anglesey, owned by Bangor University. HydroWing’s new office will be a new strategic base for the company, led by Business Manager Osian Roberts, who was born and raised in Anglesey and has considerable international experience in the offshore renewable energy sector. He will lead a team based at M-SParc, creating significant new jobs in the region.

HydroWing: Innovation to Unlock Commercial Viability

Parkinson added: ‘The commercialization of tidal stream energy has so far been hindered by high operational and maintenance costs. Our HydroWing technology tackles this challenge head-on. This will help unlock the commercial viability of tidal stream energy worldwide, providing a reliable and low-cost source of renewable energy for future generations.’

HydroWing: New Technology Based on Exclusive Modular Design

The HydroWing technology is based on an exclusive, patented modular design that dramatically improves the cost-effectiveness and energy production of tidal streams.

HydroWing: Contribution to Net Zero Goals by 2027

Simon Cheeseman, leader of the wave and tidal energy sector at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, said: ‘Tidal energy is a crucial part of the mix for achieving net zero goals worldwide. The Inyanga Marine Energy Group team has unmatched experience in the sector, having deployed more than half of all tidal stream energy devices worldwide. Therefore, it’s great to see their immense knowledge and experience informing HydroWing’s design and deployment strategy, a technology that is helping bring innovation to the sector.’

The HydroWing project in Morlais is set to be deployed in 2027.
