Institute Intensifies Qualification and Mentorship Actions for Women Working or Looking to Enter Offshore Operations
The Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) announced a set of initiatives aimed at the technical training and professional development of women in the offshore sector. The goal is to boost diversity in one of the most challenging segments of the energy industry.
IBP Reinforces Women’s Inclusion in Offshore Activities
With the aim of promoting greater representation of women in the oil and gas sector, especially in offshore operations, the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) is expanding its training and development programs. The highlight is the new mentoring program “Women Move Energy,” aimed at professionals at the beginning of their careers or seeking growth in the energy sector.
According to IBP, the program will be conducted by the Institute’s Corporate University (UnIBP) and will connect participants with market leaders. The proposal is to strengthen technical skills, strategic vision, and interpersonal competencies, preparing these women for positions of greater responsibility in the offshore environment. This initiative complements the already traditional Women’s Leadership Mentoring Program, which is in its eighth edition and has already benefited various sector managers.

Offshore Training is the Focus of the “Offshore of the Future” Program
Another area of focus highlighted by IBP is the training program “Offshore of the Future,” resulting from a partnership with companies such as Equinor and SBM Offshore. The learning path combines theoretical and practical content, focusing on the specific demands of offshore operations. The proposal is to prepare a qualified and diverse technical workforce, aligned with the new directions of the offshore sector.
The relevance of this type of initiative is corroborated by companies like Petrobras, Shell, TotalEnergies, Ocyan, and Subsea7, which also support the programs and recognize the importance of structured equity actions in the offshore environment. The active presence of these companies is a sign that change is gaining momentum.
“The Sea Also Belongs to Them” Brings Companies Together in a Pact for Equity
The project “The Sea Also Belongs to Them,” another initiative promoted by IBP, brings together various companies in the sector in a collective pact to promote gender equity. The initiative is structured around three main pillars: training, visibility, and inspiration. One of the goals is to ensure the sharing of good practices, encourage the exchange of experiences, and increase the visibility of women professionals working offshore.
As part of the project, the creation of a recognition seal and an award aimed at women who stand out in their offshore roles is planned. The idea is to create a culture of valuing women’s work in this environment still marked by structural barriers.
Commitment to Diversity in the Energy Sector
These initiatives demonstrate the engagement of IBP and partner companies in building a more diverse, safe, and inclusive offshore sector. As emphasized in the article published by IBP itself, the investment in mentoring and technical training programs is a concrete step towards increasing female participation in a historically male-dominated sector.
Secondary sources such as the EPBR Agency have also highlighted the actions of major companies in inclusive policies in the energy sector, showing that the movement for gender equity has gained strength throughout the oil and gas production chain.
