IBP launches new programs to increase female presence in the offshore sector
The IBP has created new programs to help more women work on offshore platforms. The idea is to provide more opportunities with courses, mentoring and support from major companies in the sector.

Institute intensifies qualification and mentoring actions for women who work or wish to enter onboard operations

The Brazilian Oil and Gas Institute (IBP) has announced a series of initiatives aimed at technical training and professional development for women in the offshore sector. The goal is to boost diversity in one of the most challenging segments of the energy industry.

IBP reinforces female inclusion in offshore activities

With the aim of promoting greater representation of women in the oil and gas sector, especially in offshore operations, the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) is expanding its qualification and development programs. The highlight is the new mentoring program “Elas Movem a Energia”, aimed at professionals in career start or looking for growth in the energy sector.

According to the IBP, the program will be conducted by the Institute's Corporate University (UnIBP) and will connect participants with market leaders. The aim is to strengthen technical skills, strategic vision and interpersonal skills, preparing these women for positions of greater responsibility in the offshore environment. This initiative is in addition to the already traditional Women's Leadership Mentoring Program, which is in its eighth edition and has already benefited several managers in the sector.

Offshore training is the focus of the “Offshore of the Future” program

Another area of activity highlighted by the IBP is the “Offshore of the Future” training program, the result of a partnership with companies such as Equinor and SBM Offshore. The learning path combines theoretical and practical content, focusing on the specific demands of onboard operations. The aim is to prepare a qualified and diverse technical workforce, in tune with the new directions of the offshore sector.

The relevance of this type of initiative is corroborated by companies such as Petrobras, Shell, TotalEnergies, Ocyan and Subsea7, which also support the programs and recognize the importance of structured equity actions in the offshore environment. The active presence of these companies is a sign that change is gaining momentum.

“The Sea Is Also Theirs” brings together companies in a pact for equity

The “O Mar Também é Delas” (The Sea Is Also Theirs) project, another front promoted by the IBP, brings together several companies in the sector in a collective pact to promote gender equality. The initiative is structured around three main pillars: training, visibility and inspiration. One of the objectives is to ensure the sharing of good practices, encourage the exchange of experiences and increase the visibility of female professionals working on board.

As part of the project, a recognition seal and an award for women who excel in their offshore roles are planned. The idea is to create a culture of valuing women's work in this environment still marked by structural barriers.

Commitment to diversity in the energy sector

These initiatives demonstrate the commitment of IBP and its partner companies to building a more diverse, safe and inclusive offshore sector. As highlighted in the article published by IBP itself, investing in mentoring and technical qualification programs is a concrete step towards increasing female participation in a historically male-dominated sector.

Secondary sources such as the EPBR Agency have also given visibility to the actions of large companies in inclusive policies in energy sector, showing that the movement for gender equality has gained strength throughout the oil and gas production chain.
