Two and a half years after its inauguration, unit in Western Paraná ceased activities with 10 occupied ICU beds, 59 ward beds, transferred patients, and an investigation into contractual failures in outsourced management
According to information released by G1, the Toledo Regional Hospital, in Western Paraná, ceased activities two and a half years after its inauguration, following complaints and problems in the outsourced management by Instituto Ideas, with patients transferred and uncertainty about its reopening.
Hospital closure affected occupied beds
The unit had 10 ICU beds, all occupied, and 59 ward beds. The State Health Department informed that all patients were transferred to hospitals in the region.
The Toledo Regional Hospital attended to medium-complexity cases, mainly scheduled surgeries.

The closure occurred after months of questioning regarding the responsible organization’s compliance with the contract.
Contract had been questioned
The Institute for Development, Education and Health Assistance, known as Ideas, had been managing the unit since 2023.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office indicates that the hospital had not been complying with contractual requirements since July last year.
The prosecutor’s office identified financial difficulties, lack of materials, and scarcity of professionals, even with public funds being transferred on time. These problems became part of the investigation into the Toledo Regional Hospital.
City Hall opened administrative process
On March 17, the Toledo City Hall opened an administrative process to investigate possible contractual infringements. The company was given a deadline for defense.
Last Thursday, the 30th, the city hall announced that the hospital would be temporarily closed. On Saturday, the 2nd, the company officially ceased activities.
Company cited lack of supplies
In a statement, the management affirmed that the decision to close the Toledo Regional Hospital was motivated by the lack of essential supplies and the difficulty in maintaining staff rotas.
The Institute informed that it is in discussions with the city hall and, for now, will not comment. The situation left the timeline and format for reopening undefined.
Public Prosecutor’s Office monitors the case
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is monitoring the case and warns that the closure could affect healthcare services throughout the Western region, as the unit was part of the regional network.
An emergency meeting brought together municipal secretariats and the prosecutor’s office to discuss the emergency hiring of a new company.
The measure seeks to guarantee services, but there is still no decision on how services will be resumed.
The Toledo City Hall and the Health Department did not respond to requests for comment from RPC, an affiliate of Rede Globo. The case remains under monitoring while management remains undefined.
