The Federal Institute of Mato Grosso do Sul (IFMS) has new openings for free courses in English, French, Spanish, and more. The opportunities are available to the general public, allowing students and staff from the Federal Institute to participate. The language courses are offered through the Language Center (Cenid).

The Basic French course has a workload of 45 hours and its content includes greetings, alphabet, numbers, personal presentation, likes and preferences, physical and psychological description, contacts, family and friends, time and date, weather, daily activities, habits, and frequency in everyday life.
The Basic Sign Language course lasts for 40 hours and covers basic and commonly used vocabulary, numbers, manual alphabet, fingerspelling, signs from the family context and school context, introduction to the 5 parameters of Sign Language, facial expressions and feelings, adjectives, personal pronouns, antonyms, possessives, and demonstratives.

Finally, the Spanish: Language and Culture course lasts for 40 hours and its content includes greetings and farewells, personal data, alphabet, personal pronouns, and the verb “to be”, cardinal numbers, days of the week, months and seasons of the year, professions, articles, euphonic rules, formal and informal treatment, cardinal numbers, among others.

Those interested in applying for one of the free courses in English, Spanish, French, and others must create an account on the Federal Institute’s website using their full name, email, city, CPF, among other important information.
Those with no prior knowledge of the offered language should register for the Basic – Level I class if available at the desired campus. The completion certificate from the IFMS for free courses in English, Spanish, and others has national validity and certifies the level of linguistic competence upon completion of each stage of the course.
The placement test for language courses will be mandatory for those wishing to compete for spots in ongoing classes and aims to evaluate candidates’ proficiency and knowledge levels, as well as to define the level of the class they will be competing for in the electronic lottery. The tests will be conducted online. In this case, candidates interested in language courses who do not have internet access may again request the use of a computer made available by the campuses.
