Get to Know the Federal Institute – IFES
IFES is the result of the union of four former federal educational institutions, namely the Federal Center of Technological Education of Espírito Santo (Cefetes), the Federal Agrotechnical School of Alegre, the Federal Agrotechnical School of Colatina, and the Federal Agrotechnical School of Santa Teresa.
The history of these institutions is over a century old, with the oldest being Cefetes, founded in 1909, during the government of Nilo Peçanha, under the name of School of Apprentice Artificers of Espírito Santo.
In December 2008, President Lula sanctioned Law No. 11,892, which created 38 federal institutes of education, science, and technology in the country. In Espírito Santo, Cefetes and the agrotechnical schools were integrated into a single structure, IFES. At its inception, the Federal Institute already had 12 units and included Cead, now the Reference Center for Training and Distance Education (Cefor).
