The Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul announced, in February 2026, the opening of a free preparatory course aimed at 9th grade public school students, offering slots in different cities across the state and monthly financial aid to ensure students’ continuity.
The initiative, called Program Partiu IF 2026, will take place in 17 campuses of the federal institute, with classes scheduled to start in April.
Aimed at young people in situations of social vulnerability, the federal institute’s project combines educational reinforcement with financial support.

Federal Institute Preparatory Course Offers Support Beyond the Classroom
More than just a preparatory course, the Federal Institute’s program provides a monthly allowance of R$ 200 for eight months, from April to November 2026.
The benefit will be granted to students who maintain a minimum attendance of 75% in classes, serving as a direct incentive to stay in school.
Classes will mostly take place in the afternoon, although some units of the federal institute will offer morning or evening sessions.
The content has been designed to strengthen essential knowledge and prepare students for future stages of basic education.
Slot Distribution Reinforces Federal Institute’s Presence in RS
In total, the federal institute has made available 670 slots, distributed across municipalities such as Alvorada, Bento Gonçalves, Canoas, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Farroupilha, Feliz, Ibirubá, Osório, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande, Rolante, Sertão, Vacaria, Veranópolis, and Viamão.
The majority of units will have 40 slots, while Veranópolis will have 30.
Each candidate may apply for only one class or campus of the federal institute, ensuring greater social reach of the program.
Who Can Participate in the Federal Institute Preparatory Course?
To apply for the slots, it is mandatory to be enrolled in the 9th grade of elementary school in a public institution.
Applications for the preparatory course at the federal institute are free and must be completed exclusively online through the IFRS Admission Portal, using a gov.br account.
Applications remain open until March 10, 2026, and there will be no selective test.
Selection by Social Criteria and Final Result
The classification will be based on a sum of vulnerability criteria, such as family income, ethnic-racial self-declaration, disability status, and connection with a public school.
Each item adds points, potentially totaling up to 40. In case of a tie, the older candidate will have priority in selection.
The final enrollment results will be announced on March 26. To secure the aid, selected candidates must present documents such as school certificates and CadÚnico data.

Another highlight is the distance learning (EaD) courses: there are over 170 options for free courses, with workloads ranging from 20 to 200 hours, open to anyone interested, regardless of their educational background.
Overall, the Federal Institute serves about 27,000 students and offers approximately 200 options for courses.
In terms of academic quality, the Federal Institute received a score of 4 on the General Index of Courses (IGC), an indicator from the Ministry of Education that evaluates higher education institutions on a scale of 1 to 5.
The score, referring to the year 2023, was officially announced in April 2025 and reinforces the high standard of the courses offered.
