Investment by Anglo American could reach more than BRL 422 thousand, all of this for the installation of a pilot metallurgy plant in Goiânia

British mining company Anglo American reported this Monday that it has signed an agreement that could generate more jobs for the Brazilian public – the installation of a hydrometallurgy pilot plant in Goiânia. Even though the mining company's production fell by around 18% in the second quarter due to isolation measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic and incidents in mines, reducing its target for coal production for the year. The agreement was signed between the mining company and the Mining Promotion Fund (Funmineral) and the Secretary of Industry and Commerce

Furthermore, Anglo American and the Government of Goiás, through , signed an agreement for the installation and operation of a hydrometallurgy pilot plant in Goiânia. The initiative will allow the viability of this technology to be tested for use at the company's unit in Barro Alto (GO). The forecast is that the mining company Anglo American will start the pilot project in mid-October this year.

The project will last 15 months, so at the end of the studies, experts will evaluate a new way of reusing the ore that is currently extracted from the mining company in the Barro Alto mine.

Similarly, the company added: “As the largest underground coal miner in Queensland. Anglo American is at the forefront of technical innovation and has invested significantly in technology to improve safety in its mines. This includes additional methane detection equipment above and beyond regulatory requirements, digitalization to improve underground communication and equipment automation.”
