New Distribution Center of Ita Alimentos May Transform Ouro Preto into a Logistic Hub and Create Direct Jobs.
Ita Alimentos plans to install a distribution center in Ouro Preto with a projected private investment of R$ 300 million.
The project was presented to Mayor Angelo Oswaldo after a visit to the company’s unit in Itabirito this month.
The proposal includes the construction of a large-scale logistic structure, capable of generating around 300 direct jobs and expanding the company’s service capacity to over 800 municipalities.

While the US Navy still relied for decades on the subsonic Harpoon and Tomahawk missiles for naval combat, the US Air Force reactivated the AGM-183A ARRW program on May 12, 2026, in an anti-ship version capable of making a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier disappear in minutes.
Additionally, the venture is set to occupy a plot of land already acquired in the district of Amarantina, in a strategic area near BR-356 with easy access to BR-040.
The location favors regional and national distribution of food products.
Logistic Structure Expands Operational Capacity
The new distribution center will have approximately 66 thousand square meters of built area.
The total area of the land reaches 440 thousand square meters, allowing for future expansions.
According to the mayor, the unit will have around 25 thousand climate-controlled positions.
This represents a capacity five times greater than the company’s current logistic structure.
Moreover, the project anticipates up to 60 simultaneous docks for loading and unloading.
This operational model reduces the time for moving goods and improves supply efficiency.
Project Reinforces Ita Alimentos’ Growth Strategy
Ita Alimentos was born from the merger between Laticínios Ita and MGE Distribuidora.
Today, it operates in both dairy production and distribution of food from major brands.
Commercial partners include companies like Kraft Heinz, Ferrero, Seara, and Rezende.
The company serves supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and industries in the food sector.
With the new distribution center, the company aims to expand its logistic presence and reduce operational costs.
The strategy also strengthens the capacity for large-scale deliveries.
Private Investment Drives Economic Diversification
For the city hall, private investment represents a milestone in the economic transformation of Ouro Preto.
The municipality seeks to reduce dependence on mining and expand other productive activities.
According to Angelo Oswaldo, the goal is to decrease the mineral sector’s share in municipal revenue from 60% to 40%.
In this context, the arrival of new logistic and industrial enterprises is considered essential.
“We are in the midst of diversifying economic activities, and the coming of the Ita business group, which is based in our neighboring municipality of Itabirito, is crucial for this expansion process,” emphasizes the mayor.
Direct Jobs and Social Impact in the Municipality
The generation of direct jobs is one of the main points of the project.
The initial forecast is for around 300 formal positions, with potential growth as operations expand.
Furthermore, the establishment of the distribution center is expected to stimulate indirect jobs in transportation, services, and commerce. This increases income circulation and strengthens the local economy.
For the mayor, the venture reinforces the municipality’s financial autonomy.
“With this, we, who depended heavily on mining, are now the municipality with the highest autonomy regarding revenues from iron ore among mining municipalities.
It is consistent and profound work we are doing, aiming exactly for the plurality of the municipality’s economic landscape with the most diverse activities,” he states.
Strategic Logistics Favors Regional Expansion
The choice of Amarantina as the location for the distribution center was not a coincidence.
The proximity to important highways allows for quick access to the main consumer markets in Minas Gerais and the Southeast.
This logistical advantage reduces delivery times and improves the company’s competitiveness.
At the same time, it strengthens Ouro Preto as a regional distribution hub.
Project is Still in the Initial Phase
Contacted, Ita Alimentos confirmed the purchase of the land and the intention to build the distribution center.
However, it stated that the project is still in the initial phase and that more details will be disclosed later.
Even so, the announcement is already considered one of the largest private investments in the recent history of the municipality.
Thus, the expectation is that the venture will consolidate a new economic cycle based on logistics, industry, and services.
Ouro Preto Bets on Economic Diversification
Traditionally associated with mining and tourism, Ouro Preto seeks to expand its productive matrix.
The establishment of the distribution center of Ita Alimentos reinforces this strategy.
Thus, in addition to generating direct jobs, the project creates new opportunities for local suppliers and service providers.
In this way, the municipality advances in building a more diversified and resilient economy.
With the confirmation of the private investment, the expectation is that the city will solidify its position as a regional logistic hub.
This could attract new ventures and strengthen sustainable development in the long term.
