Sports Bettors Have Until October 10 to Withdraw Money from Unregulated Platforms by the Government. After This Date, Hundreds of Sites Will Be Removed, and Values May Be Lost.

Millions of Brazilians may lose all their invested money in sports betting in the coming days.

A new rule imposed by the government will take hundreds of betting sites and apps offline, catching many by surprise.

The deadline to act is extremely short and the loss could be irreversible. Starting from October 10, 2024, bettors will have until that date to withdraw any amounts invested in platforms not regulated by the Ministry of Finance.

After this deadline, the sites and apps without authorization to operate in Brazil will be removed permanently.

According to information released, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Ministry of Finance will reveal the list of authorized fixed-quote betting companies allowed to operate legally in the country.

Only the platforms that apply for and receive authorization to operate may continue their operations.

If not, activities will be suspended throughout the national territory, meaning that any remaining funds on these platforms may be blocked.

The Government Tightens the Screws on Illegal Betting

According to the Official Gazette of the Union, the measure was published on September 17, 2024, through an order from the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Finance Ministry, stating that all sports betting platforms wishing to continue their activities in Brazil must regularize their situation with the government.

The minister Fernando Haddad has already warned that the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will be at the forefront of the operation to remove irregular sites.

According to Haddad, around 500 to 600 betting sites will be removed in the coming days, directly impacting bettors who still have invested money in these platforms.

The Impact on Betting Companies and the Future of Sports Betting

In addition to the removal of the sites, companies that receive authorization to continue operating in Brazil will have to pay a fee of R$ 30 million.

This amount refers to the initial grant to maintain legal operations in the country.

Starting in January 2025, they will also need to comply with a series of strict rules, including measures for combating fraud, money laundering, and abusive advertising, reinforcing the oversight of the sector.

In an interview with Radio CBN, Minister Fernando Haddad warned bettors: “If you have any money in a betting house, request a refund right now.

The deadline is running out, and you have the right to recover your balance.” This statement made it clear that players must act quickly to avoid losing everything.

How to Protect Yourself and What to Do Now?

The deadline to withdraw amounts from platforms that have not requested authorization is October 10.

If you have invested money in sports betting sites, it is essential to request a refund as soon as possible.

The government measure was designed to protect players from fraud, but it also imposes a short deadline for withdrawal of funds.

What’s the Risk for Those Who Don’t Act?

Those who miss the deadline, according to experts, may face great difficulties in recovering their money, especially on sites that have no authorization to operate in Brazil.

This is because, once Anatel blocks access to these platforms, there will be no legal guarantees that funds will be refunded.

Now, the question that many bettors are asking is: Is it worth continuing to invest in sports betting platforms, even with so many restrictions? Or would it be safer to explore alternatives in the financial market or other areas?
