Numbers Released by the Ministry of Labor Show That Macaé Is Hiring Again Driven by the Recovery of the Oil and Gas Sector
Macaé has managed to achieve a positive balance in job creation for the second time in the last 3 years of crisis, which is a relief and shows that the oil and gas sector in the city is beginning to mobilize, but it has not yet returned to its full normalcy. The General Register of Employment and Unemployment (Caged) released data from the Ministry of Labor indicating that 678 jobs were created in the municipality in February, about 80% directly linked to the offshore and onshore sectors of companies related to this industry.
According to Caged, the engineering and technical areas in operational activities were responsible for the majority of hires, indicating that business is happening and contracts are being signed with companies holding operational bases in Macaé. According to the institution, based on the year 2015, this is the first time that the balance between jobs and unemployment is positive.
In January of this year, the balance was negative with 178 fewer opportunities; in February, there were 678, meaning the first two months closed with a recorded balance of 500 jobs. However, the moment is still delicate and there are still concerns regarding the economic performance of the city in terms of employability.

At least the forecasts (some of which are already coming true) are completely favorable for Macaé: Some of them are:
- The oil auctions conducted and scheduled by the ANP provide a positive outlook for future hiring
- The investment of US$ 10 billion that Petrobras will make in the Campos Basin in the coming years
- Foreign companies such as Exxon and Statoil now have permission to operate in the region
According to industry experts, it has been reported even in Jornal Nacional (check it out here), 500,000 jobs in the oil sector will be created by 2022, along with another 250,000 jobs during the period in which foreign operators will develop projects to ensure productivity in the auctioned areas, with the highest interest located in the Campos Basin, and the city that already has all the necessary infrastructure for this is MACAÉ.
