New Exploration Area Auctions Are Expected to Heat Up the Market. By 2021, 20 Platforms Should Be Operational in the Pre-Salt.

[supsystic-social-sharing id=’1′]Labor market analysts estimate that the oil industry will help create half a million jobs in the next five years, mainly due to the pre-salt. Jacarepaguá Airport, in Rio. Every day, hundreds of passengers arrive for boarding: oil workers. Before doing the report, we need to put on a jumpsuit, which is a piece of safety equipment. We took off towards the Lula Field, in the Santos Basin.

About 500 helicopter pilots and co-pilots work in this industry, along with hundreds of flight attendants, technicians, and aircraft mechanics. An hour and ten minutes later, we see the Cidade de Itaguaí platform ship, a giant the size of three football fields. And 20 platforms like it are expected to become operational in the pre-salt by 2021. Each one can produce 150,000 barrels of oil per day. The ship is connected to six producing wells. The reserves are seven kilometers deep.

The ship is all divided into modules. It has a power generation unit capable of lighting a city of 250,000 inhabitants. Inside, there are more than 21,000 pieces of equipment, almost all controlled remotely. Therefore, highly specialized professionals are needed: engineers, mechanics, electronics technicians, people willing to spend the entire month, two weeks away from home.
Bruna has already gotten used to the rotation. “We try to ease the distance from family, the distance from home, friends, confinement, by really being a family on board,” says chemical engineer Bruna Pacheco. Less than 10% of the crew are women. Carla tests the pre-salt oil. “The oil here is excellent,” Carla says.

In the heart of the ship are engineers and technicians; on the deck, emergency and maintenance teams. The painting crew fights against rust. A battalion that needs to eat: there are 40,000 meals per year. Zé Ricardo washes the dishes.
“It’s worth it because we are bringing sustenance home,” he says.
In recent years, the sector has already lost almost half a million jobs, but new exploration area auctions are expected to heat up the market. Watch the video below from the Jornal Nacional report!

“For every US$ 1 billion in investment, a little over 25,000 jobs are created. So we imagine, doing a quick calculation, that in the next five years, it’s not linear, but we will have about 500,000 new jobs being created,” explains Cláudio Makarovsky, director of Abespetro, the Brazilian Association of Oil Service Companies.
And you, have you ever considered working on a platform?
“At first, you will face many challenges until you get used to this routine. It’s nice, I really like it,” Bruna sums up. Source: Jornal Nacional
