Opportunity for Girls and Non-Binary Youth Includes Python Learning and Programming Logic, With Enrollment Until October 6, 2024
The University of São Paulo (USP) has opened 150 spots for the free online course “Girls Programmers: Introduction to Programming.” The course is aimed at teenagers and young people who identify as female or non-binary, especially third-year high school students or recent graduates. With a workload of 48 hours, the course will be taught entirely remotely, between October 19 and November 16, 2024, and will provide a solid foundation for those who wish to enter the world of programming, according to the Hora Brasil website.
Program Content: Introduction to Programming and Python
The course was carefully designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to programming. The first class will be divided into three main parts, starting with an introduction to the course dynamics, where students and monitors will be introduced, along with guidance on remote work practice. Next, the course will cover block programming, an initial methodology that facilitates understanding of essential programming concepts, such as user interaction (input and output), sequence, and simple conditionals.
The second part of the class will focus on the introduction to programming in Python, a language widely used both in the market and in teaching programming. Concepts already seen in block programming will be worked on, with a transition to practical application in Python. This first phase includes activities involving logic and algebra, fundamental areas for developing computational thinking.
