The Amount Of Jobs To Be Created By The Railway Works In Ceará Will Increase By 200% This Year, Benefiting Local Residents
The construction of the Transnordestina railway in Ceará is underway, boosting employability in the region. With two phases already in progress, the project is currently employing almost 2,000 people at its construction sites. However, this number is expected to increase significantly this year, reaching around 6,000 jobs. This means there is a 200% increase anticipated for job positions as interventions are initiated in four other sections.
Expected Start Of Works On The Acopiara-Itapiúna Section This Year
According to the project’s schedule, the works on the section linking Acopiara to Itapiúna are expected to start this year. This additional stage could significantly boost the number of jobs generated by the Transnordestina in the state of Ceará. Despite the challenges faced, the construction of the railway will strengthen transportation infrastructure and increase the competitiveness of Brazil’s Northeast region, promoting socio-economic integration with other regions of the country.
The Employment Potential Of The Transnordestina
Tufi Daher Filho, CEO of Transnordestina Logística S/A, the company responsible for the project, emphasizes that each construction lot generates between 900 and 1,000 direct jobs. Considering that there are plans for six sections with works throughout the year, the railway could employ up to 6,000 people from Ceará, which represents a significant boost for the local economy.

However, it is important to note that hiring does not occur all at once. It is done gradually as the works progress in each section. This approach ensures that the recruitment of locals for the construction jobs is done according to the needs and progress of the railway construction, allowing for efficient management of the human resources involved in the project.
The Cearense Railway Project Has 1,753 Km Of Extension And Covers 3 Different States
The Transnordestina is an important railway infrastructure project aiming to connect the interior of the Brazilian Northeast states to the coast, covering the states of Piauí, Ceará, and Pernambuco. Construction began in 1997 but faced various setbacks and delays over the years, encountering financial, bureaucratic, and environmental challenges. The project is managed by Transnordestina Logística S/A, a private company created to implement and operate the railway.
The railway will have a total length of 1,753 kilometers, connecting the cities of Eliseu Martins (PI) to Salgueiro (PE), passing through important inland cities in the Northeast such as Crateús (CE), Missão Velha (CE), and Arcoverde (PE). The Transnordestina will feature two branches, one directed to the Port of Pecém in Ceará and the other to the Port of Suape in Pernambuco. This will enable more efficient transportation of goods for national and international trade.

In addition to facilitating cargo transportation, the Transnordestina will also bring socio-economic benefits to the regions it traverses. The construction of the railway generates direct and indirect jobs, boosts local commerce, and contributes to the growth of the served areas. Furthermore, the railway will reduce dependence on road transport, decreasing logistical costs and environmental impacts related to cargo transportation.
