The Merchant Marine Announced the Opening of Registrations for Its Selection Process Which Aims to Make More Than 260 Positions Available in Higher Courses.
The Merchant Marine announced on Wednesday (1) the opening for registrations in its selection process, which aims to provide 263 positions for the admission of students to the Officer Training Schools of the Merchant Marine, at the Almirante Graça Aranha Instruction Center, located in Rio de Janeiro (Ciaga), and also for the Almirante Braz Aguiar Instruction Center (Ciaba), located in Belém. Out of the total number of vacancies, 119 are aimed at Ciaba and 144 are aimed at Ciaga.
Courses Offered in the Merchant Marine Selection Process
Total, there are two courses: Merchant Marine Nautical Officer Training (FONT) and Merchant Marine Machinery Officer Training (FOMQ). Both courses will begin on January 30 of the next year and will be taught in a boarding regime at the Almirante Braz Aguiar Instruction Center, in Belém, and at the Almirante Graça Aranha Instruction Center, located in Rio de Janeiro.
The two courses offered in the selection process are composed of two periods, with the first consisting of six semesters with common subjects to both courses.

In the second academic semester, students can choose which area they wish to pursue, taking into account their academic performance and the number of vacancies in each course. The second period consists of a one-year internship.
During this period, students will be on support vessels, military vessels, or platforms. This internship will be an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge acquired in the courses, under supervision.
How to Register for the Selection Process?
The Brazilian Navy website will accept registrations until June 15, and registered applicants must pay a fee of R$ 65 by the 17th. According to the announcement provided, fee exemptions will be granted to family members with a per capita income equal to or less than 1 minimum wage and to those who completed high school in public schools or, alternatively, in private institutions as scholarship students.
The deadline to request fee exemption for positions in the selection process ended on June 3, and the results will be available from the 10th of the same month. Those whose requests were denied can appeal administratively.
Some of the requirements for the Merchant Marine selection process include: being a native Brazilian, having completed high school, being between 17 and 23 years old on January 1, height between 1.54 and 2.00 meters, not having children, not being married, being up to date with electoral obligations, being up to date with military obligations, and also not having been a student of the Merchant Marine Officer Training Schools.
About the Merchant Marine Exam
The objective test, of a classificatory and eliminatory nature, will be conducted on August 20 and 21, in the cities listed in the announcement, from 10:00 AM to 2:15 PM. The announcement of the convocations with details and instructions will take place on the 12th of the same month.
Candidates must answer 20 multiple-choice questions related to the syllabus of Portuguese Language, Mathematics, English, and Physics. Each question is worth 5 points, totaling 100 points.
There will also be a discursive essay, which will also be worth 100 points. The correction criteria will follow the structure of the text and expression, as well as adherence to the number of lines. In both cases, the maximum score will be 50.
