Free Course Offered by MEC Provides Online Training in Data Science and Information Visualization for School Managers, with 40 Hours of Duration and Free Certification After Completion and Minimum Performance Required.

The Ministry of Education has opened registrations for the free and fully online “Data Science and Information Visualization in Education for Managers” course, offered under the National Connected Schools Strategy, in partnership with the Telefônica Vivo Foundation.

There are 4,271 spots for school management professionals from all over the country, with digital certification at the end for those who achieve the minimum required performance.

Training in Data for Decisions in Schools

With a workload of 40 hours, the track covers fundamental concepts of data science applied to educational management, from collecting and organizing information to creating visualizations and narratives that support decision-making.

The proposal is to develop skills to read indicators, transform databases into objective dashboards, and communicate results clearly to the school community.

Curriculum and Structure

The training path is divided into four complementary axes.

The first presents the foundations of data science in school management, with notions of information quality, data preparation, and ethics in data usage.

Next, participants advance to collection and analysis of educational data, working with metrics such as flow, yield, attendance, and internal assessments.

Following that, the focus shifts to data visualization for decision, exploring information design principles and best practices for building graphs that accurately express trends and alerts.

Finally, the storytelling with data module integrates evidence and context for management narratives, useful in accountability reports, pedagogical meetings, and planning.

At the end, there is a final assessment to verify learning throughout the course.

Target Audience and Format

The training is self-directed and aimed at school managers in basic education from any network and state.

As the course is 100% online, each participant accesses the content at their own pace, with digital materials and evaluative activities in the learning environment.

Once registered, students can start immediately and must complete the content and evaluations within the minimum timeframe established before certification.

Certification and Approval Criteria

Upon completing the activities and achieving a score equal to or above 7, the student receives a free certificate issued at the end of the track.

The certification attests to the completed workload and performance, and can be used for functional advancement according to local rules of each education network.

The training design prioritizes practical activities focused on reading indicators and communicating results, so that participants can demonstrate mastery of essential topics.

Spots, Calendar, and Filling

The 4,271 spots will be filled in order of registration.

Registrations remain open until the deadline informed by the initiative’s platform or until the available spots are filled.

In recent launches, the Connected Schools Strategy has been releasing schedules with defined registration windows for courses and classes, reinforcing the guidance for interested parties to register as soon as possible to secure participation.

Why Data Issues Gained Space in Management

The expansion of courses focused on data use in education accompanies the advancement of public policies for connectivity and digital transformation in schools.

The National Connected Schools Strategy integrates initiatives to universalize quality internet access and promote the pedagogical use of technology, which includes the continuous training of managers and teachers.

By enhancing the capacity to collect, analyze, and visualize data, networks and schools gain tools to face challenges such as dropout, age-grade distortion, and budget planning.

What the Participant Learns in Practice

Throughout the 40 hours, participants practice assembling dashboards and graphs aligned with management questions, learn to interpret learning and retention indicators, and train in communicating evidence in objective reports.

Additionally, the track discusses notions of data governance and ethics to avoid biases and ensure privacy, a central theme in school environments.

The expectation is that, in the end, the manager will master a repertoire of techniques to support daily decisions, from monitoring the goals of the pedagogical plan to planning targeted interventions.

Who Can Participate and How to Prepare

The course is recommended for directors, deputy directors, pedagogical coordinators, and technical staff from secretariats working in basic education.

There are no prerequisites for statistical or programming education; however, careful reading of guidelines, time organization, and familiarity with spreadsheets and graphs help improve performance.

As the assessment requires a minimum of 70% correct answers (score 7), it is advisable to plan a study schedule that distributes the content into short and frequent blocks, prioritizing consolidation exercises at each module.

Can the Course Strengthen Management in Your Network?

With links between data, visualization, and narrative, the training is likely to support more accurate diagnostics, transparent accountability, and quicker pedagogical decisions.

In a scenario of learning goals and indicator monitoring, how does your school currently use data to guide priorities and engage with the community?

How to Register

Registrations are made online, directly on the platform of the initiative responsible for offering under the Connected Schools Strategy.

Just access the course page, fill out the registration with the requested information, and confirm participation.

Access to the content is granted after registration, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is recommended to register as soon as possible to avoid missing out on the 4,271 spots available and to follow the calendar provided in the course environment to meet study and evaluation deadlines.
