Network Programs Prioritize In-Service Teachers
According to MEC and CAPES, the so-called national network master’s programs aim to enhance the qualification of active teachers and connect academic research with the everyday challenges of the classroom.
According to the agency, the design of the courses was created so that teachers can remain in service while completing the training.
PROFCOMP: Training in Computational Thinking
The Professional Master’s in Teaching Computing (PROFCOMP) provides training aimed at integrating computational thinking into the Basic Education curriculum.
The national notice No. 1/2025, published by CAPES, establishes the application period from October 1 to 27, 2025, and the online exam on November 16, 2025.
The application fee is R$ 130, according to the Foundation University Company of Technology and Sciences (FUNDATEC), responsible for carrying out the selection.
According to MEC, PROFCOMP seeks to prepare teachers to apply methodologies and digital technologies in teaching Computing, encouraging the pedagogical use of technological tools.
The course is free, lasts about two years, and requires the development of an educational product applicable in schools.
Furthermore, according to information from the program’s network, the research lines encompass “Methodologies and Technologies for Teaching Computing” and “Computational Thinking in Basic Education”.
ProfHistória: Pedagogical and Historical Update
The Professional Master’s in Teaching History (ProfHistória) is also open for applications.
The national notice defines the application period from August 26 to November 13, 2025, and the unified national exam will be applied on December 7, 2025.
The program is coordinated by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in collaboration with dozens of associated public institutions.
According to CAPES, ProfHistória aims to qualify Basic Education teachers to develop innovative practices and teaching materials in the classroom.
The focus is on improving content and methodologies aimed at teaching History.
The main research lines are “Historical Knowledge in the School Space” and “Historical Languages and Narratives”.
Sources linked to the program’s coordination explain that the master’s program is exclusively aimed at area teachers and that the selection process occurs in a centralized manner, ensuring standardization in the evaluation.
National Selection and Elimination Stages
According to the notices, the selection process for both programs is eliminatory and classificatory.
The stages may include objective and essay exams, document analysis, and, in some cases, interviews or assessments of descriptive memorials.
MEC emphasizes that each national notice contains specific rules that must be read carefully by candidates.
The notices also inform that there are no tuition fees for the courses.
However, the application fee for the exam is mandatory: R$ 130 for PROFCOMP and, in the case of ProfHistória, average values of R$ 150, varying according to the associated institution.
Requirements and Target Audience
MEC informs that the network programs are intended for in-service teachers in Basic Education.
In PROFCOMP, teachers graduated in fields related to Computing or who teach related subjects can apply.
In ProfHistória, the positions are aimed at licensed History teachers who work in the public education network.
According to experts in educational policies, the offer of professional master’s degrees represents an opportunity for updating and improving teaching practice without the need to leave work.
These courses are also recognized for functional progression in various state and municipal networks, according to local legislation.
Impact and Continuous Education
Capes states that professional master’s programs are part of a national strategy for valuing teachers, focusing on training based on applied research.
According to the agency, the goal is to expand teacher qualification and encourage the production of knowledge aimed at improving student learning.
Experts in teacher training highlight that the modality allows for combining theory and practice, strengthening the connection between university and school.
For CAPES, the proposal is to ensure free access to stricto sensu training, prioritizing teachers who remain in the classroom during the course.
How to Apply
Interested parties in the PROFCOMP should access the FUNDATEC website, fill out the electronic form, and submit the documentation required in the notice by October 27, 2025.
The exam will be conducted online on November 16, 2025, in a controlled virtual environment.
In the case of ProfHistória, applications must be made directly on the program’s website by November 13, 2025.
The national exam is scheduled for December 7, 2025, at locations defined by the participating institutions.
MEC reinforces that candidates should carefully read the national notices and the specific guidelines of each university before submitting their application.
The free training offered by the programs represents, according to CAPES, an opportunity for continued qualification aligned with the demands of Brazilian basic education.
