Open Enrollment for Free MEC Training Offers 80 Hours of Training in Mathematics and Portuguese Language Focused on Youth and Adult Education, with Distance Learning, Official Certification, and Flexible Deadlines for Completion.

The Ministry of Education (MEC) has opened enrollment through the AVA-MEC platform for two free distance learning continuing education courses aimed at teachers working in Youth and Adult Education (EJA).

Each course has a workload of 80 hours and provides official certification upon completion, allowing participants to organize their studies according to their availability.

The training programs were developed by the Secretariat for Continuing Education, Youth and Adult Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion (Secadi), in partnership with the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).

This initiative is part of federal actions aimed at strengthening the EJA modality and is aligned with the National Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy, a policy that encompasses various fronts of action by the MEC in this area.

According to the institutional presentation of the courses, the proposal is to provide theoretical and methodological support that engages with the life, work, and schooling trajectories of young and adult students.

The focus seeks to articulate academic content with the social practices present in the daily lives of this audience, a recurring perspective in EJA guidelines.

MEC Courses Focused on Continuing Education in EJA

The two training programs available on AVA-MEC address pedagogical foundations and practices, with specific focuses on Mathematics and Portuguese Language and Literature.

Both are structured in an self-instructional format, without permanent tutoring.

In this model, progress occurs according to the participant’s pace, following the modules and activities available on the platform.

Although the primary target audience consists of teachers working in EJA at the Elementary and High School levels, the operation of AVA-MEC allows, in certain cases, the enrollment of undergraduate students and other education professionals interested in the subject matter.

In these situations, it is necessary to meet the registration requirements set by the system.

Content Scheduled in the Mathematics and Portuguese Courses

In the course Pedagogical Foundations and Practices in Mathematics, the approach emphasizes the contextualization of mathematical teaching, considering historical, cultural, and social aspects.

Among the indicated contents are number systems, geometry, critical financial education, and mathematical modeling, always related to everyday situations in EJA.

According to the course description, the goal is to support the planning of pedagogical practices that consider real problems and lived experiences of the students.

This proposal engages with approaches such as Ethnomathematics and references inspired by Paulo Freire, widely used in public policies aimed at the education of young people and adults.

The course Pedagogical Foundations and Practices in Portuguese Language and Literature begins from the understanding of language as a social practice.

The modules propose reflections on oral skills, reading, and writing linked to the world of work, social participation, and citizenship education of EJA students.

In terms of literature, the material highlights its role in developing critical reading and text production.

The proposal, as presented in the syllabus, is to work with literary texts as part of the right to education, broadening repertoires and possibilities for expression, without disconnecting the content from the realities experienced by the students.

Deadline for Completion, Assessment, and Official Certification

After enrollment, participants have a minimum deadline of 20 days and a maximum of 120 days to complete each training, according to information released on the platform.

This interval allows participants to organize their studies according to their routines, respecting the limits established by the course.

Assessment occurs through activities performed in the virtual environment, with objective and essay questions.

To pass, it is necessary to access all content and achieve at least 60% passing rate on the evaluation activities.

Once these criteria are met, the certificate is automatically made available for download in the user’s profile.

AVA-MEC functions as the official MEC environment for offering courses and other distance training actions.

The platform consolidates content, tracks progress, and issues certifications according to the specific rules of each training program.

Target Audience and National Reach of the Courses

The training is primarily directed at educators working in Youth and Adult Education across various educational networks and regions of the country.

At the same time, because it is a nationally accessible platform, the environment tends to bring together varied profiles of education professionals interested in continuing education, respecting the registration and authentication requirements.

The offering of courses in this format has been used by the MEC as a strategy to expand the reach of training actions.

This model is especially adopted in contexts where in-person participation is limited by geographic issues or availability of time.

How to Enroll in the Free AVA-MEC Courses

Enrollment must be done directly on the AVA-MEC platform. To do this, it is necessary to access the environment with a Gov.br account or complete the registration required by the system.

Then, the interested party must find the courses “Pedagogical Foundations and Practices in Mathematics” and “Pedagogical Foundations and Practices in Portuguese Language and Literature” and confirm the enrollment.

After enrollment, the participant can start studying and organize their schedule to meet the modules and activities within the established deadline.
