Mercado Livre Expands Operations with New Distribution Center in Pernambuco. The Company Promises 1,500 New Jobs and Greater Opportunities for Small Businesses.
The Mercado Livre, Giant of E-commerce, continues to surprise and transform the Brazilian logistics landscape.
This Tuesday (27), the company took a bold step, betting high on the economic development of the Northeast region.
The new facility in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, emerges as a significant milestone in the strategy of Mercado Livre to conquer the North and Northeast of Brazil.

A pair of Chinese shoes arrived in Brazil in 2025 costing an average of US$ 4.50, an impossible price to match that helped reduce national footwear production by 1.9%, close around 3,000 jobs, and bring imports to the highest volume in ten years, according to Abicalçados.
According to the Vice Governor of Pernambuco, Priscila Krause, the opening of the center is the result of a series of measures that the state government has been taking to attract investments and facilitate the lives of entrepreneurs.
Among these actions are the streamlining of processes and tax simplification, creating a more favorable environment for the growth of the logistics sector.
Priscila Krause highlighted that Raquel Lyra’s administration is focused on strengthening the state’s Logistics Hub, something essential to boost the local economy.
“With the changes we’ve made, now an order can be sent in the same package, regardless of the number of sellers, as long as the recipient is the same,” stated the Vice Governor.
This flexibility is part of a set of measures that position the government as a true business partner, generating new opportunities for the local population.

Economic Transformation and Job Creation
According to Luiz Vergueiro, Director of Logistics at Mercado Livre, the company’s arrival in the state is an old dream.
With the new operation, the expectation is that products will arrive more quickly in various locations, benefiting not only sellers and consumers in Pernambuco but also in other regions of Brazil.
This means that, in addition to accelerating deliveries, the distribution center will allow for greater integration of the northeastern market with the rest of the country.
This distribution center is the company’s second in the Northeast and is part of an ambitious expansion plan involving investments of R$ 23 billion.
According to Fernando Yunes, CEO of Mercado Livre in Brazil, the initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to regional economic development, creating opportunities for small and medium entrepreneurs to thrive in the digital ecosystem.
The implementation of this project was only possible thanks to the update of tax rules promoted by the Government of Pernambuco.
Among the changes, the possibility for companies to operate commercially in the same space as the logistics operator, the end of the requirement for state registration for companies without a branch in the state, and the elimination of the need for distinct packages for different suppliers when the destination is the same stand out.
The new Mercado Livre facility promises to bring many advantages to Pernambuco but also raises questions about economic sustainability and competitiveness.
It remains to be seen whether the promise of 1,500 jobs will be enough to balance the potential challenges that will arise with this expansion. What do you think? Is Pernambuco prepared for this transformation?
