MODEC hired MAN Energy Solutions to supply five radial compressors and two sets of screw compressors for the FPSO in the Bacalhau field, which has its offshore production operated by Equinor off the south coast of Brazil. The vessel, which will operate 185 km (115 mi) south of São Paulo, in 2.050 m (6.726 ft) of water, will produce and process up to 220.000 b/d of crude oil and up to 15 MMcm d of gas, with minimal storage of crude oil of 2 MMbbl.

Modec's compressor systems will help maintain pressure in the offshore production of the Bacalhau field, helping to maximize throughput and production efficiency. MAN's RB compressors (2 × RB 45-4 + 5 and 3 × RB 28-6), each driven by a fixed speed electric motor, will be used for gas processing, full gas re-injection and gas-lift.

Both SKUEL 510 screw compressors will serve as vapor recovery units for Modec's offshore production, pressurizing any flash gas created and returning it to the process rather than burning it in the atmosphere. According to the MAN, this will lead to more efficient gas processing as well as reducing CO 2 emissions.

While the radial compressors will be designed for offshore projects, manufactured and tested in Zurich, the company will manufacture the compressors in Oberhausen, Germany. Modec's FPSO project in the Bacalhau field operated by Equinor will use high-powered permanent magnets to position and hold the cover in place. Depending on the cover size, four to ten powerful Miko MAM permanent magnets are used to hold the cofferdam in place.
