MODEC Hired MAN Energy Solutions To Provide Five Radial Compressors And Two Screw Compressor Trains For The FPSO At The Bacalhau Field Operated By Equinor Off The Southern Coast Of Brazil.
MODEC hired MAN Energy Solutions to provide five radial compressors and two screw compressor trains for the FPSO at the Bacalhau field, which has its offshore production operated by Equinor on the southern coast of Brazil. The vessel, which will operate 185 km (115 mi) south of São Paulo, in 2,050 m (6,726 ft) of water, will produce and process up to 220,000 b/d of crude oil and up to 15 MMcm/d of gas, with a minimum crude oil storage of 2 MMbbl.

Offshore Production At The Bacalhau Field Operated By Equinor Receives Support
MODEC’s compressor systems will help maintain pressure in the offshore production of the Bacalhau field, helping to maximize flow and production efficiency. The MAN RB compressors (2 × RB 45-4 + 5 and 3 × RB 28-6), each driven by a fixed-speed electric motor, will be used for gas processing, total gas reinjection, and gas-lift.
Both SKUEL 510 screw compressors will serve as steam recovery units for MODEC’s offshore production, pressurizing any instantaneous gas created and returning it to the process instead of flaring it into the atmosphere. According to MAN, this will lead to more efficient gas processing and reduce CO 2 emissions.

While the radial compressors will be designed for offshore projects, manufactured and tested in Zurich, the company will manufacture the compressors in Oberhausen, Germany. MODEC’s FPSO project at the Bacalhau field operated by Equinor will use high-power permanent magnets to position and hold the lid in place. Depending on the lid size, four to ten powerful Miko MAM permanent magnets are used to keep the cofferdam in place.
