Army Announces Temporary Positions in Rio and Espírito Santo, with Simplified Selection for Corporals, Sergeants, and Officers. Process Includes Document and Curriculum Analysis, Physical Fitness and Health Tests, with Salaries That Can Reach R$ 10 Thousand.

The Brazilian Army has opened a selection process for the entry of temporary soldiers into the 1st Military Region, which covers Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, with opportunities for corporals, sergeants, and officers.

There is no knowledge test. The assessment occurs through document and curriculum analysis, as well as physical fitness tests and health inspections.

Registration is scheduled from August 28 to September 22, 2025, directly on the 1st RM website.

Salary varies by rank and can reach around R$ 10 thousand for positions requiring higher education, according to applicable regulations.

How Simplified Selection Works

The process follows the model of the Voluntary Military Service (VMS), with an initial incorporation of 12 months, renewable successively up to a maximum of eight years, depending on the needs of the Force and the performance of the soldier.

The call is regional, and each stage—from online registration to in-person presentation—follows the schedule and criteria set out in the call notice.

Instead of an objective test, the panel evaluates qualifications, experiences, and declared courses. Then, those qualified perform the Physical Fitness Test and undergo the health inspection.

Finally, the approved candidates are assigned to military organizations in the 1st RM, with priority for functions related to their specialties.

Who Can Apply

The selection includes three entry points. For Temporary Specialist Corporal, the candidate must have completed elementary education and a vocational course in the chosen area.

For Temporary Technical Sergeant, a technical high school degree in the corresponding specialty is required. For Temporary Technical Officer, it is mandatory to possess a higher education degree in the specified profession.

In all cases, the age requirements apply—between 19 and 40 years—and a minimum height of 1.60 m for men and 1.55 m for women, along with other general conditions of the VMS.

Corporals: Operational and Support Occupations

At the elementary level with qualification, the announcement lists dozens of practical occupations. The 1st RM accepts applications from professionals in construction and building maintenance, such as construction and installation assistants, masons, carpenters, rebar workers, and painters.

There is also room for electrical technicians, welders, plumbers, and locksmiths.

In the automotive and machinery sector, there is demand for category D and category E drivers, including those with school transport or emergency vehicle courses.

Additionally, tire repairers and automotive, motorcycle, and aircraft mechanics assistants are listed.

There are also positions for operators of engineering and paving machinery, such as graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, rollers, asphalt pavers, and crushing equipment.

In health and hospital support, the roles include nursing assistants, dental health assistants, prosthetic assistants, hospital helpers, and receptionists in health services.

The range includes technology and audiovisual activities, such as computer operators, assistants in micro and peripheral maintenance, audiovisual media assistants, cameramen, and photographers.

In logistics and operations, positions include motorboat operators, boat assistants or pilots, surveying and drawing, as well as handlers for dogs and horses.

Technical Sergeants: Intermediate Level Qualifications

For Temporary Technical Sergeant, the focus is on recognized technical training.

The administrative field includes administration, logistics, and human resources technicians, including specific experiences as auctioneers or supplies officers.

In infrastructure, there are opportunities in construction, civil engineering drawing—with work in Revit, AutoCAD, and surveying—roads, cartography, and land surveying.

The electrical and industrial fields feature electro-technical, electronic, electromechanical, metallurgy, refrigeration, and air conditioning, including industrial refrigeration by ammonia.

In the automotive sector, emphasis on diesel vehicles, automotive electrical systems, and mechanical turning counts as a plus.

Technical health includes nursing—with specializations like hemotherapy, surgical instrumentation, orthopedic immobilization, neonatology/pediatrics, intensive care, and emergency—clinical analyses, radiology, dental health, and dental prosthetics.

Information technology constitutes a robust block, with programming (Java, PHP, C++, and Python), databases, networks—including CISCO—, WebLogic, information security, web design, graphic design, and illustration, maintenance, and support.

Complementing the list are audiovisual (camera operation), geoprocessing, environment, chemistry, engineering equipment operation, and technical teaching.

Technical Officers: Higher Education in Multiple Areas

At the higher education level, the 1st RM calls for temporary officers in broad academic and professional fronts.

Administration, accounting, and economics are included, with qualifications focused on public contracts, budgeting, and forensic accounting.

Social communication covers journalism, public relations—including ceremonial work and proficiency in English and Spanish—advertising and propaganda, social media management, and industrial design with an emphasis on visual programming.

The block of engineering is extensive, including civil, fortification and construction, production, computing, industrial automation, electronics, electrical, mechatronics, mechanical, materials, metallurgy, cartographic, forestry, environmental, chemical, biochemical, and even nuclear engineering.

In science and education, there are fields such as statistics, history, geology, museology, and a wide array of teaching across various disciplines and languages.

In health, opportunities include nursing, physiotherapy across multiple qualifications, speech therapy, nutrition, occupational therapy, and social work.

There is also theology for chaplaincy—priest or pastor—, hospitality, and tourism.

Physical Requirements and Documentation

In addition to education, the candidate must meet the physical and health conditions described in the announcement. The physical fitness test verifies abilities compatible with military activity.

The health inspection validates clinical fitness, including required exams and reports.

The documentation proving education, training, professional records, and experience must be complete at the time of registration or as per the delivery schedule set by the 1st RM.

Remuneration, Link, and Assignment

The remuneration of the temporary military personnel depends on rank and career stage, with additional benefits provided by law.

For officers with higher education, the reported range goes up to about R$ 10 thousand, which may vary depending on the specific conditions of each incorporation.

The link is temporary, with no stability, allowing for annual extension up to a maximum of eight years, subject to performance and the administration’s interest.

The positions are for military organizations in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, within the framework of the 1st RM.

Applications and Deadlines

Applications must be made online, between August 28 and September 22, 2025, following the instructions on the official 1st Military Region website.

Careful attention is recommended regarding the requirements of each area, the required documents, and the dates for in-person stages. In the event of schedule updates, official communications from the Command of the 1st RM prevail.

Given the extensive range of areas, from driver to nuclear engineering, which specialty best leverages your education and can strengthen your application in this VMS cycle?
