Former nurse, 56, allegedly kept mother’s body at home and used disguise to renew documents, while authorities investigate pension fraud, false identity, concealment of a corpse, and the exact cause of death
An Italian man, 56, is under investigation after disguising himself as his own mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio, who died in 2022, to continue receiving her pension. The pension fraud allegedly secured about €53,000 in benefits and was discovered during the renewal of an identity document. The incident was reported by various sources last year, such as Ilgiorno, Aventuras na História and others.
Pension fraud was discovered at the registry office
Former nurse and unemployed, the man did not report his mother’s death to the authorities. Besides the benefit, he continued managing income from family-owned properties and land.
On November 16, 2025, he appeared at the Borgo Virgilio registry office wearing a blouse, skirt, lipstick, and a short brown wig. The aim was to renew Graziella’s identity card.

An employee noticed neck hair, exaggerated makeup, and beard marks under the foundation. Suspicious, the staff member alerted Mayor Francesco Aporti and the police.
Images showed suspect driving
Surveillance footage reinforced doubts because the disguised person arrived driving. Graziella did not have a driver’s license.
Summoned again to the registry office, the Italian confessed to the ruse and confirmed that the woman whose document he was trying to renew was his mother.
Body was found inside the residence
After the confession, the suspect authorized a search of Graziella’s house. Authorities found the mummified body in one of the rooms.
According to the mayor, the death may have occurred from natural causes, but an autopsy should determine the cause. Aporti stated that the family was not facing financial difficulties.
The man is being investigated for concealment of a corpse, fraud against the State, false identity, and perjury.
Latest data found on the case
Examinations on the body of Graziella Dall’Oglio began at Carlo Poma Hospital in Mantua, to try to establish the cause of death. According to the Italian newspaper Il Giorno, the analyses were still ongoing, with no public conclusion about the circumstances of the death that occurred in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Mantua were analyzing objects found in the residence.
The son remained at liberty and was being investigated for concealment of a corpse, fraud against the State, false identity, and falsification of a public document.
The Italian National Institute of Social Security was also investigating the amount received irregularly. The estimate was approximately €3,000 monthly, as Graziella received her own retirement and her husband’s death pension.
The body was located in a laundry room, wrapped in several layers of sheets and placed inside two sleeping bags.
Up to that update, there was no information about a formal complaint, trial, or conviction of the investigated.
