Company Has Been Assisting Silvestrin for 31 Years in the Distribution of Highly Sensitive Products

Silvestrin, one of the largest importers of fruits in Brazil, managed to reduce its operational expenses and delivery times through a customized solution developed in partnership with Movecta.

“There was the challenge of centralizing the operation in a single logistics operator and facilitating the transportation of goods to the southern region of Brazil. They needed a partner who could assist with receiving, inspection and handling of imported cargo with the necessary expertise in this segment. There were tons of fruits, highly sensitive products that require totally refrigerated and controlled storage, in addition to handling by trained professionals. So we developed a customized logistics project, using our cold chambers, with direct delivery to the clients’ vehicles,” recalls Carolina Paiva, commercial manager at Movecta.

The storage and handling of fruits demands constant, strict and dedicated control. To meet this operation, Movecta began offering docks and exclusive ante-rooms for the demands of its clients. In terms of infrastructure, Movecta expanded the number of covered positions by remote inspection (from 48 to 137), built exclusive rooms for the work of approving agencies and offers dedicated teams and laboratories for physical analyses.

The improvement process did not stop there. The company also identified the need for new changes and the inclusion of more logistics services in its operation. Palletizations, labeling, and DDCs (direct unloading for trucks) were developed and added, items that brought more agility and organization to the company’s operations.

“We noticed a gain over these three decades in our operations. Movecta quickly understood our needs and started designing tailored solutions that made perfect sense for us. We need to deliver the best fruits to our clients, and this continues to happen today because Movecta assists us in strategic stages of the process,” says Aline Domingos, foreign trade supervisor at Silvestrin. The use of the refrigerated customs terminal was fundamental for increasing the service options without compromising cargo safety. They are always very close to our operation and in constant contact, always assisting us with whatever is needed. Another important aspect was the elimination of expenses with demurrage (fees charged by shippers for delays in the return of containers),” she adds.

“The impact of demurrage varies depending on the size of the clients, products, and types of containers used, ranging from US$ 60 to US$ 300 per day. It is more advantageous to transfer the cargo to a customs warehouse and release the containers as quickly as possible,” says Piero Simione, commercial director at Movecta. “Port terminals are points of passage for goods, and therefore the structure offered does not meet importers’ needs in their demands for customized services and longer storage times. On the other hand, the retroportuary customs terminals have more infrastructure for storage and also offer a range of additional services that port terminals do not provide,” he completes.

Today, Movecta is a market leader in Santos and Suape for activities involving removal, storage, and special services for refrigerated containers. “We continue investing in this strategic segment to bring our clients more and more value,” reveals the commercial director.
