The New Contract Between Ambev and Neoenergia Will Contribute to the Adoption of More Sustainability by Both Companies, Utilizing I-REC Certificates for the Supply of Wind Power in the Free Market Over the Coming Years.
The beverage company Ambev is moving towards a more sustainable future and has a new contract with the company Neoenergia for the supply of wind power in its operations. To develop the company’s sustainability project, I-REC certificates will be used for the supply of renewable energy, which will occur in the free market over the next 10 years.
Ambev to Receive Wind Power After Signing Sustainability Contract for Resource Supply in Operations
The commitment to sustainability from Ambev and Neoenergia is increasingly present in their operations, and the companies have now entered into an agreement for the supply of wind power in the beverage company’s operations.
Thus, the energy company will provide the resource for the next ten years, in the free market modality, and will contribute to a reduction in the environmental impacts of Ambev’s production chain. Additionally, the agreement between the companies will be in the long-term PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) model and foresees the supply of 55 MW on average over the next 10 years.

Another important point for sustainability in the companies’ contract is the use of I-REC certificates for the resource supply. These certificates serve as security vectors in the wind power supply and guarantee traceability of the entire energy supply, making the project even safer for Ambev. To achieve the total mark of 4.8 TWh of renewable energy over ten years, a total of 4.8 million I-RECs will be necessary during the contract.
The use of I-REC certificates is one of the main bets of the international energy market to contribute to the environmental agenda quickly and pragmatically. Furthermore, Ambev and Neoenergia’s choice of the PPA modality will ensure entry into the free trade market and the possibility of expansion in the energy segment. Thus, long-term revenue will be secured between the companies, and both will be able to enter into new parallel contracts over the next 10 years.
Neoenergia Continues Expanding Renewable Energy Contracts with Its Operations in the Brazilian Market
The choice to use I-REC certificates for the supply of wind power to Ambev reaffirms Neoenergia’s commitment to rapidly pursuing growth in the national energy segment.
The company recently completed the Chafariz (PB) and Oitis (PI and BA) complexes and aims to expand its installed wind capacity to 1.6 GW this year. Additionally, Neoenergia is also developing the Luzia Solar Complex (PB), which will have an installed capacity of 149.3 MW for the national market.
Thus, the company reaffirms its commitment to ESG practices, and Neoenergia’s Director of Liberalized Businesses, Hugo Nunes, highlighted: “This contract reflects our growth in the Brazilian free energy market, an expansion aligned with our sustainable purpose. We are pioneers in the energy transition in the country, and agreements like this allow us to increase our investments in renewable sources, assisting in decarbonization and in line with our ESG practices to meet our customers’ needs.”
Neoenergia has thus secured not only the stability of business for the next 10 years with the contract with Ambev but will also continue to expand its portfolio of renewable projects from the free trade market agreement with the beverage company.
